7 days now (or is it more?) and counting. I did the 5 boro in the rain and that's enough of riding in the rain for me. It just isn't enjoyable. Yeah, I know, HTFU and all that. I'm doing this to enjoy it, not to suffer.
I'm already building an Arc in my backyard and collecting two of every animal... :notamused:

For me, it's not so much the wetness. It's the damned gloominess that goes along with it. When we had that great weather a couple of weeks ago, the depression about my job and life in general dissipated and all I could think about was cycling. The minute the weather changed, the weight of the world was back on my shoulders.
I'm going to Florida for the weekend. Sunny and 90 degrees is what I'm seeing. Hopefully, I'll see a few people on bikes and the feeling will come back again!

yea this weather just plain sucks. I am participating in the 5BBC Montauk Century ride on the 17th and have been training in this crap. As my luck would have it, it will probably rain during that ride. Oh well sorry for the vent.
Yeah, I'm riding in this. Today was the first day this week I didn't wear all the rain gear. More rain tomorrow. More rain next week.
Bike #1 is in the shop for a hub overhaul, bike #2 is getting the hell pounded out of it, rear fender developed a crack the other day, not sure how long it'll last.

It's supposed to be nice through Thursday so finally some nice weather to ride in.

I've been in, erm, training (using the term loosely) for the Montauk Century as well. Lucked out last Saturday, but the weather was cold or wet apart from that 1 weekend heat wave. Well, had 1 good weekend ride that was comfy, the week before that heat wave.
If the weather is real crap for the 17th I might just sleep in.

This will never end. Sunday looks like it may be clear in the morning, but with gusting winds and we all love that don't we?
Biggest annoyance for me about the rain even with fenders is that the bike gets cruddy and bringing it into the apartment to dry off and clean is pretty filthy. That and being paranoid about steel frames rusting.

Yea I dont blame ya for wanting to sleep in. Considering the amount of money I spent on it I wouldnt be able to sleep if I missed it. So I may be doing the ride rain or not. GL if you decide to attempt it. :thumb:

Seriously! I'm about to leave college (places I want to go are only about 6 miles away by bike) to go back to my rural-area home, where using a bicycle for transport is difficult (everything is ~20mi away)
I wanted to get in some errand-running while I was here, but I don't think it's an option if this rain keeps up.

I've ridden my bike every day this week, commuting M-Th, and a loop around CP today at lunchtime. It was nice out at lunch with just a little more humidity than I like.

I've been out a few times in the rain this week but I've made it as short as possible. While doing a thorough cleaning of my bike after a long, wet & nasty ride through Central Park, I noticed some rust on the inside of my 5-month old steel bike's seat post... I guess riding around in rain, sleet and snow all winter and spring is taking it's toll...
Outside of avoiding any wet conditions (which is almost impossible as you can see) how can I protect my steel framed bike from rust and how do I get rid of the rust forming on the inside of my seatpost now? Thanks.

This weather sucks. I got soaked all the way down to my underwear and socks yesterday.

KitN, hit up an autoparts store for rust inhibitors. Spray liberally inside the seatpost and frame, and let it get in all the tubes good.

friday was nice enough, but it is already raining again today as I write this.

Thanks for the tip. Will do! :)

I got up this morning (saturday) at 530 in hopes for a ride. Nope. Raining hard with thunder/lightning. So I spent the morning cleaning/rebuilding my cassette/chainrings/derailures/chain and cleaned/lubed cables/cable guides. Gonna double up tomorrow. Riding from Huntington to and around Glen Cove area and back. Supposed to be sunny Sunday, enjoy everyone.
I commuted all week (and got stuck in that awesome torrential downpour last Friday). I have a thing for fog and gloom - makes a familiar environment interesting. Walking around at work with wet pants on Tuesday wasn't too cool though. I've certainly explored all the weaknesses of my wet weather gear at this point.
