Hey,

I purchased an old ten speed a couple weeks ago for 10$ at a garage sale. It looks nice and it is in good shape. I was wondering if anybody would know what kind it is or if it is any good. Not that it matters or anything, for 10 bucks it satisfies my needs. But just out of curiosity, if anybody has any information it would be neat to know. It's blue (almost metallic blue) and it says Pro Tour on the top tube and just PT on the down tube. Sorry, I know it's not a lot of information and I don't have a picture, but any information would be appreciated. I don't know for sure, but i would guess it it a mid to late 80s model.

Thanks !

Its probably a Centurion (Western States Imports. also it's possible to have been sold under the Niko name) ProTour; if it is then it's actually an old 1980 (or so) touring bike. If the head badge is still on the bike it should say Centurion bicycles around the outside edge. If it was kept stock it should have Dia Compe 610 center pull brakes front and rear. And may be running Suntour Cyclone derailleurs. Also if is a 80 bike it should have the English style full wrap seat stays-the seat stays wrap around the seat tube. The frame was actually chrome plated for rust prevention then painted! You should also have Suntour dropouts. Check all this stuff for verification to see if I'm on the right track.

So what do you have? If it is what I think it is, it was the nicest, or at the very least one of the nicest touring bikes to come out of Japan! They were not popular because they were too expensive. Around about 82-84 they sent their remaining ProTours to Bikecolgy (sp?) and the factory took the Centurion name off and just called it Pro Tour.

Froze,
Thanks for all the info. I don't quite know if your on the right track, but here's what I can tell you. The head badge, well, it doesn't really have one, just painted PT, can't see Centurion anywhere on it. Since I purchased it at a garage sale, I have no idea what parts could have been changed. Sorry, also, no Suntour parts, all Shimano. One thing though is that there are a couple scuffs in the paint and no rust... Maybe it's what you are talking about the bikecolgy "ProTour" since there seems to be nothing written on the frame other than "PT", "ProTour" and "10-speed". That would be cool. Maybe it's a K-mart bike. meh...

Thanks froze for all the info !

oh, also, im living in Ottawa, Canada if that helps....

CRSO,

Right now I am riding a 2004 Atomic Don 161. It's great. I also have Flow Morphan boots and FL-11 bindings (2001 if I remember correctly...) where do you ride ? I ride Mostly in Ontario (Searchmont) closest decent hill to my hometown, 4 hours away... :(, anyways, I get to ride Tremblant quite often now that I live in Ottawa, and I got out to the Eastern Townships of Québec and Vermont for a weeklong trip this season...

Well, as far as riding. I really haven't been. I live in NYC and go when I can. I've been riding for over 15 years and usually go to Sunday River Or Killington.

It's probably the bikecolgy "ProTour", but again I'm just guessing. If it is, it was a decent touring bike in it's day.
