Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi there,
I'm a Scot from Glasgow currently in Japan TEFLing and liking the bike culture here. Almost everyone drives the cheapest bikes imaginable here-enter "mamachari" into Google Images to see what I mean. I used to live in Braemar and that was my only time of real mountain biking, which was great fun and something I intend to return to. I switched from a MTB forum because I kinda gathered I was in the wrong place, tho this wasn't intimated to me in any way by the other riders, who all seemed commited and responsible. Did you know that a fit human on a bicycle can cover more ground per day than any land animal?
I intend to graduate from half-day sightseeing rides in Japan to a full week or two on the road, but I need a partner and time off. My bike is at the bottom end of decent, or at least not laughable; a Merida Freeway 9300, Alu 7005 with Acera components. It's a 48cm frame and I'm only 5 foot 7 but I love it anyway. I used to know a guy who was 5 foot or less who would ride a Z1 motorbike so it's not that extreme!
