Hello
Anyone doing Escape from Alkatraz?
If you are what is your time goal?
For those of you who don't know, it's a modified olympic: 1.5 mi swim, 18 mi bike, 8 mi run.
For my third Tri ever, my goal is under 3 hours.

I will be there, and my goal is completion. As you probably know, the swim is in the bay with a strong cross current. Followed by a very hilly bike ride, and a hilly run, as well, and after the swim, before the bike, you walk/run/climb up the sand ladder.
So, with all that, my goal is completion.

I keep seing this in magazines, and it is already pencilled in for my 2010 calendar. I have a long ways to go to be ready for a race like that, and this year it's simply out of the question from both a prep and price standpoint.

Does this take place in the SF Bay area?

good luck to those who are doing it. it's not an easy course.

Bah! I just got back from the Auburn Half ("World's Toughest Half") and that's not an easy course. After 6000 ft of climbing over 56 miles, 18 miles on the bike will seem easy.

I've always wanted to do that race. Now it is so big & so popular, it will likely never happen.
My goal would totally be to finish. Considering how many people don't even finish the swim...

it's the swim that is difficult. the bike and run aren't bad you just have to adjust from a 10k to 8mi on the run depending on what tri's you usually do. the t times are usually pretty slow as well. to me the bike is easy. hills/no hills, winds. doesn't matter to me. but it is very easy to get waaaaaaay off course on the swim and just blow it right there. 1.5k can turn into 2k real quick.
rumrun - it starts on the island and basically goes thru/around golden gate park. check out the site...
