Ok here goes:

I used to have a Nishiki road bike, yellow in color, the forks had chrome from the midline down, shifters by the stem, and I thiiiiiink it was a limited edition something or other.

Does this bike ring a bell with anyone? If so let me know. Trying to recapture some of my youth and pass it on to my kid.

Oh and I have no idea the year or anything on this bike..... I'm 35 and I had it (used) when I was 19.

I think they were called the "Darwinizer". Those stem-mounted shifters were known for taking male riders out of the gene pool under the wrong circumstances, and, IIRC, banned by the CPSC. If you can determine the date of that ban, you've got at least a lower bound on its age.
