Winter Cycling - They call this winter?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Today is "officially" the second day of winter here in Queensland. Right now it's about 6.20pm, dark outside, and the temperature outside is 22 degrees C. If this is what passes for "winter" around here, I'm moving before summer gets here!
Run. I'm already getting worried about summer here (not sure when it starts, but it's probably going to be upper 90s F and 80-150% humidity)
It's so much better when it's 40F below for weeks on end and you don't have to worry about what the weather is going to be - you already know you need a bunch of layers.

You know, that's the one thing that bugs me about "winters" around here. I managed to clock 2 degrees C in Numinbah Valley one morning last week (amazing how much the temperature drops once one gets away from the coast). I knew full-well that later in the day it was going to hit 25C, and I wouldn't need (or want) so many layers!
I get the opposite in the spring and fall here. I work nights, so it's usually a lot colder in the morning.

I know what you mean. I'm in Southern Japan and I'm genuinely dreading the next two or three months, which will be just like yours. The rainy season's just starting now (for 5 weeks)and in this heat and monsoon conditions, it's impossible to arrive at work in a decent condition without:-
a) Bringing your work clothes in a hermetically sealed backpack, including underwear and a towel....even if you're 15 mins ride away
or
b) Buy a "rainsuit" which is basically a two piece, shaped garbage-bag ideal for inducing heat exhaustion. You sweat so much in one of them that it looks like the rain got to you anyway.
Not fun.
This is followed by a month or two of constant sun and hi heat.
p.s. The have no air conditioning in my workplace.

When it rains in our summers, I make no attempt to keep dry. Heck, I don't even reach for the towel when I get out of the shower!
Ah winter that mighty beast! I miss it already. I just wish we had the long days during the winter, a long cold day beats a long hot, muggy, sultry day in my book.

Jeez mate, bring it on. I'm on the coast starting 29 June - to thaw out basically. Bliss.

If you're bringing a bike, drop me a PM. There are some really awesome places to ride up in the hinterland (although that's usually a touch cooler than the coast). I might need thawing out too. I'm heading to the Darling Downs again this weekend, and if it repeats last year's trick...

Ugh...I hate winter. Sunrise at 7:30, sunset at 4:30 so no daylight to ride in. New England weather is too cold and slushy/snowy/muddy to do any riding, mostly because of snowbanks and sand on the roads (not to mention the cold). I must have that seasonal depression disorder or something. I'd much rather deal with hot humid weather any day. At least it's possible to ride in the evening and you can always cool off by swimming. Sunset isn't until 8:30 and it's still light out until 9, so I think I'll just ride until I run out of daylight tonight after work.
