Folding Bikes - Would anyone like a brand new 2009 Dahon MU SL (bargain price)

Last year I bought a 2008 Dahon MU SL. The bike developed a problem with the hinge. I was told by the bike dealer and Fisher Outdoor (the UK importer) that I was the only person to have had this problem.
I now have been sent a brand new 2009 replacement bike.

As some may know I have recently bought a 2009 lightweight Brompton, the main reason being that I wanted a folding bike that would fit into the small boot of my sports car(a weekend toy) the 20” wheeled Dahon is just a bit too big.

The MU SL is a fantastic , lightweight and fast bike to ride but I can’t justify keeping two expensive folders at the moment and to be perfectly honest I would like a new mountain bike or another folder that is more suited to off-road use.

The Dahon MU SL currently has a recommended retail price (RRP) of £1,076.60 and the dealer who supplied the bike has it for sale online @ £964.99.

This is a brand new bike with all the paperwork /owners’ manuals/Pre Delivery Sheet check sheet and hang tags. It has been checked over by the dealer and is ready to ride. The bike is still in the box, I have only opened the lid and checked to see that all the accessories / peddles etc. are present and correct.

Is anyone interested at £700 (a saving of £376 off the RRP). The bike is currently in my office in Liverpool and I would be able to deliver within a reasonable distance, otherwise I’m sure it can be sent by post or currier.

There are a few changes over the 2008 spec. I spotted the nice new Ergon Leichtbau Grips.
The bike has a 5 year frame warrantee.

Any Dahon bike you sell will have no warranty for the person that buys it.

That is interesting. So what would happen if someone buys a bike as a present for a family member and then dies shortly afterwards? Is the person who receives it as a gift then left without any warrantee?
I would have thought it was possible to transfer the warrantee if I pass on all the paperwork and then ask the dealer about transferring the warrantee.

Am I asking too much? If so what is a bike with uncertain warrantee status actually worth?
I can drop the price a bit but there does come a point where it is not worth selling for peanuts and I’d rather just put it into storage....... The MU SL could well be a future classic. :thumb:

It is a 1991 MX5 LE (#166 of 250). Only done 52k from new and has been professionally restored. The only change from the LE specification is the fitment of a green mohair hood. http://i465.photobucket.com/albums/rr17/venomherps/GreenHood004A.jpg

I'm not sure if the later MX5's have a larger boot, but the Dahon will not if into the boot of a MK1 car.

Of course we could always buy the carrier that fits over the boot to carry the Dahon.
My Brompton JUST fits in. So I am sure you are correct when you write that the Dahon wont.

as far as I know the 5 year warranty is when you NOT have signed u on the Dahon website. The Lifetime warranty is only for the original purchaser after he signed up and registred his bike ...

Thats how I see it anyhow... besides does anybody really feel that Dahon would shy away if there is a real warranty ( manufacturers defect ) in anybodies bike ? No matter what the paperwork says ? I ave not seen any problems with any real warranty claims, no matter what ... Mr David Hon ( DAHON) name is on the downtube.... you really think he will lawyer himself out of a problem ..I sure dont think so .

I can fit my Helios even with roadhandlebars and stuff into my mx5 Miata ( its the 99 version though)
get the darn spare wheel out of it and get a can to blow up the tire ..it will save you unessary weight ( saves gas ) and you will be able to get it in the car ...

Brilliant solution Thor. Sadly, I live in Japan where storing things like spare tyres is a challenge. But I take your point. ANd it is good to know a Dahon DOES fit into a Miata-Roadster.

When I bought the MX5 last October I tried fitting the old MU SL in the boot. I did take out the spare wheel but the bike would still not fit. I can only assume that your 1999 second generation MX5 has a larger / different shaped boot?

The fact is that this is a very rare 1991 limited edition (#166 of 250) and it has not been “got at” or modified from standard (apart from the green mohair hood, which was my choice). I’d like it an inch or so lower but I don’t want to have to worry about speed humps. I have only done 500 miles since I bought it last October (with 52k genuine miles on the clock). I might make some changes in years to come but at the moment I’m happy with it as it is.

Anyhow, the Dahon is still sitting in its box waiting for a new owner:)

just to bump this up to the top ... :-)

get some EIbach sport springs .. they will lower the car by about an inch, no worry about speed bumps , just cut the bump stop a little and you are fine
