Northern California - I can't condone this lunacy

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have been given a tip by an anonymous source that some hooliganism and general tomfoolery took place on Mt. Dialbo last night.
2 cyclists were seen climbing this storied local peak under cover of darkness, aided only by their questionable skills, half wits, a full moon and some cheap bike lights.
Below I present the eveidence submitted by my tipster.

Yep. Full moon brings em out.
Some other half wits were in the hills below Diablo having a ball on the single track under the nice moon.
I hear they had some adult beverages and other neato stuff stashed in their Camelbacks too.
Good times.

No doubt!
Having climbed Mt Hamilton in the dark a couple of times, it ain't the climb or the descent - It's the 2 skunks and huge wild boar we met on the way up. :-)
I've always wanted to climb Diablo in the dark, but I was told it's illegal. Anyone know if that's true?

Not if you don't get caught...
True :-). But I always thought that it would be pretty easy to get caught considering there are ranger residences on the mountain.

One of them I recognize from an illegal race that occurred with a one CCorlew...
I hope they catch the whippersnappers!

A boar on the way up wouldn't be such a big deal. Hitting one on the way down, at speed? Hmmmm.... that would leave a mark. :)
Might as well hit a full 50 gal oil drum. At least the oil drum doesn't have tusks and a nasty disposition.

It's illegal to BE in the park after dark unless you have a camping permit. The rangers will probably hassle you but not throw you in the joint IME.

"But this guy on bike forums said you wouldn't arrest me! Heck, they NAMED this mountain after him!"

I like all the pretty electric birds flying in the background. Pretty lighted wings!

Hmmm, so if I get a camping permit I could legally ride at night? Sounds like a plan.

That's true. In 1999 on the "Tour de Garlique" 200K ride, a friend and I were descending Fremont Peak near San Juan Bautista when wild pigs came crashing out of the brush and ran across the road about 20 yards in front of us. Pretty scary.
