Hi; I'm planning to embark upon a one year journey throughout the USA beginning sometime late spring, leaving Orcas Island in the Pacific NW and heading south. I'll be working as I go, volunteering where I can, and will write a book about this journey. I hope to do something online as well. In part I've been inspired by the life of Studs Terkel who pioneered the oral history interview in his time and I'd like to do the same in a more multi-media online way. I'd interview people from diverse walks of life and communities as I go, letting them tell there own stories. We are living in interesting times and I not only want to document them but have a website set up so that those following my journey have a way to interact with the people and communities I pass through; depending on the situation, to be inspired and take home new ideas for the betterment of their own communities, or to find ways to help those who are in need, be it material support or fresh ideas. I've been stuck living in my storage unit for months and the work is scarce where I am so I have decided to turn adversity into an adventure. Having cycled as a way to get around for nearly 20 years and pretty fit for my age, I am ready for this. Any advice though would be more than welcome. I'll be camping and couch surfing, work-trading, etc to get by and at the moment starting to do some local fundraising and looking for sponsors. Something like that.
