I'm looking at riding my first century this year in October. Have been doing the 10% steady increasing since February. But my question is what is the recommendation for training on flats and hills. Flats, do you ride in a gear that is somewhat challenging or do you try to keep a high cadence with a lower gear? Hills, do you strictly try to keep a high cadence or do you continue to challenge your legs in a higher gear, and or do you try to stay seated or stand?
