Mountain Biking - 2009 stumjumper FSR comp vs 2009 FSR xc comp

Ok I know that if you are serious mountain biker difference between these two are huge but if you don't do to much more than some technical single trails and couple of small jumps here and there which bike would you get?
I mean price difference between these two is almost a thousand dollars and obviously stumpjumper has much better components and stuff.
I put a down payment on a stumpy and I am having second thoughts so guys lets hear it.:D

If you have the money score the stumpy. Great bike, flat out great bike. If cash is tight and you think you can effectively hit the trails you ride on with the XC get that one. Though the XC is a nice entry level mountain bike, the refinement of the stumpy is ridiculous. I bought mine with the same buyers remorse, however my dilemma was between the stumpy comp and the elite, I have not looked back since the first time i rode it questioning my purchase or spending the extra cash. The stump jumper is a very versitile bike and rides like a couch going down hill with the shocks opened up. I have not rode the XC model, but know people that have them, though i havent ridden with them myself, and they like their XCs as well. They are a bit more tamed in the sport, but still, are generally up in the area i ride and the XC meets the billing. You will not out grow the Stumpy, you may want to XC race at some point and get a more XC oriented competitive bike, but the stumpy can handle practically everything you throw at it effectively. I know my stumpy elite is limited by the rider. Great bike, will always recommend it any chance I get. I think this is a financial decision more so then anything else. When you test rode them i am sure you felt the difference. If your question here is "are the stumpies worth a $1000 more than the XC's", if you can afford it and you ride regularly on various types of trials, heck ya it is worth it.

Thanks for your input Bosok I definitely see your point and I think I am gonna stick with the stumpy :) my LBS is giving me a great deal on it(I took four of my friends purchased bikes from them and this is gonna be my third bike from them all in one month) it would be dumb of me to not to take the deal.

I just bought the '09 Stumpy Comp with the money my insurance company paid me for my 2006 FSR XC Comp, which was stolen 2 weeks ago. OMG! The Stumpy is in a different class. The XC Comp was an excellent bike, but I really pushed it past its suggested use on technical drops and really rough downhills. I paid for these sins with bent rims, broken deraillers and bumpy downhill rides. The Stumpy laughs at this same type of punishment. I really eats up terrain that made the XC huff and puff. The "couch" analogy is humorously accurate. The frame is the same as the Elite and Pro models, so when you wear out the stock components you can easily upgrade. Buy the Stumpjumper.

Great to hear...it's gonna take couple more weeks to pay mine off. I can't wait to get my hands on it. :D
