Hello there
My name is Rick and as you can guess I am from Oregon.
My wife and I have just started to ride in the last couple of weeks again after almost 20 years.we went out and bought a couple of cheap mountan bikes so we could ride together. We have 3 kids here and two with there dad.the 3 here are 14yrs,7 yrs,and 2 yrs.the 14 yr doesn't care much to ride with us but the other 2 just love it.we like to go too but we can't ride far.to out of shape.
Just so you guys know we bought the 2 cheapest bikes walmart had to offer.roadmasters I think they are called.once I get them adjusted to fit I think they will fit the bill nicely.we don't ride far but we try to get out every night.
it gives a way for us to get out and be together.and a little excersize.plus with gas the way it is it might not be a bad idea.drive to where we want to go then brake out the bikes to get around.
Any way we are enjoying the ride, and as soon as WE are broke in to the seats I think it will be a real blast.

Rick,

I fully understand that cost is a big factor for some people in a bike purchase. When I bought my 'bent I did a lot of looking and price was a consideration to some degree. There are bikes available for well under $1000 but I can't comment as to the quality of the components. The nice thing about a 'bent is that you will not have to break into the seat. It's like a Barcalounger on wheels. Since you ride with the family it could make the outings more enjoyable. One of the reasons (actually secondary reason, the first was physical) I bought my 'bent is the fact that gas is expensive. I live 18 miles from work and no longer drive due to health reasons. This menas my family travels 76 miles a day just getting me to and from work. Even if I bike commute only one way it is a significant savings on gas and wear/tear on the vehicles. If you are serious about trying a commute get at least one reasonable bike for that task. You will not regret it. Riding a 'bent makes cycling seem new again. I'm never going back to a diamond frame bike.

'bent Brian
