Mountain Biking - Advise on lube: Tri-Flow vs. ???

I'm sure it's been addressed previously, but here goes anyway...

I bought my mountain bike about a month ago, and after three or four rides the showroom lube that was on the drivetrain had turned gummy. So, I busted out my 10-year-old kit of degreaser and lube and went to work. I used Pedro's Syn Lube on the chain, and it seems to stay wet and pick up a lot of dirt.

What are some recommendations on lube for dry, dusty conditions (pretty much the norm for Nor Cal summers). The LBS gave me a small bottle of Tri Flow, and I remember this stuff from way back, but if I remember correctly this stuff stays wet and picks up all kinds of stuff. What I want is something that will keep chain, cogs and chainrings shiny, not black!

I personally like Pedro's products, but concur that the SynLube stays wet. It works better in muddy conditions. I recomend the Pedro's DryLube, it's a PTFE based lube that is specially formulated for your conditions. I'm in FL, and we also have a lot of dry conditions and I've used this for about 2 years with much success.

The other stuff I like is the wax based stuff like Krytech by FinishLine or White Lightning.

I haven't the Pedro's stuff. Personally can't stand using the wax lubes.

My lube of choice at the moment is Pro Link. Seems to do a good job, and doesn't attract too much gunk.

I ride in the dry hardpack in Southern CA and I've found the best chain lube is Pro-Link. It goes on wet, but dries and doesn't attract dirt or dust. It keeps the drive train clean and quiet. Every few rides, I use a dry brush to knock off dust and apply Pro-Link.

In the past few years, I've used Pedros Ice Wax, Finish Line Krytech, and White Lightning.

A few ride buddies swear by White Lightning and it seems to do be a fine product. I guess it comes to personal preference.

You can buy Pro-Link directly from the manufacturer.

I'm not picky enough to care about what lube works best...I just use tri-flow. If I want to worry about lubrication without grit attraction...I'd just go spray some teflon spray on my stuff and let it dry...but I really don't care that much so i leave it be.

I found that Tri-flow was good for my road bike, but collected too much dirt off-road. The Dry Lube from Pedro's is my current favorite (for both).

I had some tri-flow that I tried only once and then tossed it out. It is the blackest goo mongering lube ever. It took a heck of a lot of work to get my chain and cogs clean after using that muck. I'm going to give pro-link a try because you guys are recommending it, but white lightning is doing the trick.

i clean with degreaser and use finishline..... my bike was covered with rain muck, leaves and trail crap for three days on the long weekend.. it purrs now :)
