Utility Cycling - VIDEO - My Bikes-At-Work trailer at work in New Orleans

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Stick around after the credits for the blooper.
Here is the desctiption from Vimeo:
I used my Bikes At Work trailer to help my local bike shop move their rental fleet back to their warehouse after Jazz Fest ended. It was a knockout beautiful day with a brilliant blue sky, puffy clouds and a nice breeze.
I could load, haul, unload three bikes in 20 minutes - about the same time it would take in a truck but without the parking hassle (or burning a bunch of gas).
My wingmen in the video are trained killers (US Military). In New Orleans thugs will punch you in the throat to take ONE bike and I am in possession of FOUR and moving slow. Not a great idea to travel solo to a deserted warehouse area by oneself.

Fun video. I grew up just outside of New Orleans, Old Metairie, and biked to the Lakefront all the time. One summer I had a job across from Xavier University, can't remember the street name this was over 30 years ago, tried riding my bike to work and a kid on a bike rode up and told me " a white girl shouldn't be riding a bike in this neighborhood". Took his advice. Still love the city and am grateful for growing up there. I think I was an adult before I realized the whole world didn't get out of school or off of work for Mardi Gras.

Great job...I loved the bit with the camera mounted on the trailer. Nice touch. Also a great shot of the guy in the black fedora skitching on your trailer.

The scene with camera mounted on my trailer almost didn't happen. The first attempt started before a bumpy stretch of road and rattled the camera so hard that the video file got corrupted and the micro SD card wouldn't work. I had three more - the first two didn't want to work either. But the last card was good, we made another drop off, then I attached the camera where the street was smooth. I am really glad I persisted. I just about peed my pants when I first viewed that scene on my laptop! The blue sky, trailer wheels turning, palm trees swaying in the breeze. Awesome.

It's a good thing the camera wasn't on it when it flipped!! And I just noticed Elwood loosing his hat when he rounded that corner. Fabulous...:D

The wind was howling straight in our face on that stretch. Every time we turned that corner I could feel the wind grab everything with me. When he was skitching the trailer on that stretch I probably looked like I was climbing the Pyrenees. Momentum is everything!
