I am thinking about switching from rims to discs, and I need to know what equiptment I need, and whether I can do it at all.

so several questions:

Do I need new hubs on my wheels?

are is the little single hole on both sides of my fork a disc tab?

Is the little flat surface at the intersection of my chainstay and seatstay a disc tab?

If neither of these is yes, is there a way to mount the caliper that costs under $200? I have a potential other bike with disc tabs for this price.

Depending on what you get, the brakes themselves could cost around that price. (I'm working off AUD here though :P)

He hit it dead on, but what matters also is if your fork is compatible. it would have to holes sticking out of the back of the left side. If the rear is compatible, tiw ould have two holds sticking up on the left seat stay near the base. NOT THE TWO AT THE BOTTOM. IT MAY HAVE BOTH, BUT IF JUST THE SMALL ONES ON THE DROP OUT, THEN NO.

As to under $200, well, www.therapycomponents.com has an adapter that costs $150 for the rear. If the fork is not compatible, then you'd need a new fork, and unless you find a used one/crap fork, you will nto be able to do both the front and back for under 200

You could get some ****ty tektro discs, but that would defeat the purpose of getting disc brakes anyway.
The reason to upgrade to discs is to upgrade.
