Fifty Plus (50+) - My new commuter is finally here (pics)

I have been using my Litespeed as an occassional commuter and enjoyed it enough to get a more appropriate bike. I wanted something made out of good steel, not to heavy and with longer chain stays. I decided I wanted a used Lemond Poprad, but when I started looking and bidding on them on ebay I had a hard time getting one. Now that Lemond and Trek have split and you can't get a new Poprad the used ones are pretty popular and holding their value. I found this one on Craigs list in Arkansas and after talking to the guy a few times on the phone he was nice enough to send it to me. I have ridden it around the neighborhood a few laps but thats it so far. I don't like the tires on it and am going to find some 28 road tires. It rides great and the saddle feels good so far too. It is in good condition other than being a little dirty. It also came with a set of Nitto Noodle bars which seem pretty comfortable.

Not only are Lemond Poprads great riding machines, they will hold their value in years to come - congrats!!

I like this one much better than the Poprad in the other thread.

Either the bike is white and blending in with the background, or the pics aren't showing up.

Very nice bike - white works for a commuter - you don't have to go fast.

I'd be imbarrased to show a picture of mine - I used to ride my Gary Fischer into work but last summer a friend gave me his old bike - was hanging in his garage and had not been ridden in over 30 years. I ride this old steel Puch, I think it was a sears special. Definately a gas pipe bike. It rides fine but is heavy - the upside is I don't have to lock it:lol:

$700 including shipping and then I sold the pedal for $30 and put on an old set that fit my look cleats, so $670. Not a great deal but I got what I wanted so I'm happy.:love:

Great bike - I am regretting not getting one when they were still available.

Of all of the road bikes that I rode and hated, the one that I most regretted hating (the ride) was the LeMond Poprad. Not that it is a classic road bike, it being a cyclo bike. But I loved the styling and I had the opportunity to buy a brand new one at 40% off during the Trek clearance of LeMond bikes. I remember standing there and looking at it, wishing that I could tolerate riding on it, because I would have loved to have owned one.

The traditional geometry didn't agree with me either, but it sure looked nice.

I'm sure the ride would have been smooth for someone who enjoys riding drop bar bikes.

Well, I did learn a lot about them in the process. And the Poprad was one of my favorites.

In recent months I've only commented on a handful of drop bar bike threads.
