Mountain Biking - Yesterdays ride pics (56k warning)

Took the new Jamis build out for a nice simple, and kinda lazy solo ride on yesterday morning. Decided to not drive the 2 or so hours to the raystown grand opening. Was just trying to get it all dialed in, and had a few hours, so what the heck. I went to Hashawha nature center, back in my home town in carroll county. A nice trail system of a crap load of loops and out and backs. Not a very large of an area, but has TONS of trails, fire roads, and horse trails. It can get crowded, but once off the beaten path you are practically alone, not something you see here in this part of the country. Its where I started riding 15 years ago, and will probably end riding here. Hell, I cut most of these trails. Anyways.... Sorry for crappy phone pics. Left camera at home.

At the main trailhead there is a nice boardwalk around a little pond and wetland are (I built this boardwalk, and still do all the maintenance

Damn chain broke. And stupid me forgot a chaintool and a spare half link. Anyway,slammed seat and a nice fred flinstone ride chainless back to the truck. Downhills are fun when you can't pedal. Its all gravity baby.

These trails aren't very steep, up or down, but make up for it in roots, rocks, stream crossings, and very technical trials. Well, once away from the very used areas. One of the little hidden gems of MD. Mainly only see local riders out there. Nice for every level.

Once thing I love about here is its still pure. No skinnies, laders, and what not. Its all nature on its own. None of those damn bridges over tough areas either. Only man made stuff is a few bridges over the larger streams and creeks, but thats only near the hiking trails. Otherwise its either ride it, or pick up bike and wade through

How did you chain break? Did you hit something or was it just wear and tear?

Just an old chain I had when I did the build. And an old half link. It broke at the half link. Luckily I just ordered a bunch of half links into the shop... Replaced with a new, better chain and new link.

Do people still use dial-up?

Fishing is good. Catch and release only. There is a 50 year old abandoned county dump near by, so the water has a lot of stuff in it.

And yes, troie, people still use dial up. I don't, but more than 2/3 of the country still does. Anyway, 56K warning is old lingo, but you still get the drift.

2/3rds probably do use 56k, but those are very rarely the types that frequent forums. Considering the number of people aren't computer literate, and how many don't have much money, 2/3 wouldn't surprise me.

Think about. Al those very rural areas, farmers, older people that still use rabbit ears for there T.Vs. I would think that people that use rabbit ears, probably don't have broadband. And with the digital conversion, it was pushed back because more people needed to get the converter box. And that was a little over half of the population. Once you get out to the mid-west, deep south, and far north, broadband just isn't available, unless you want to use satellite or direct-way. And that costs a fortune, and is only a little faster than dial-up, and less reliable.

Why does it matter anyway, it's typical forum lingo. 56K warning=lots or pics.
