Hello everyone

I am approaching the big 4 0 this year and have decided that it is time to just stop making excuses and get in shape. No more excuses about not having enough time, too tired, school, work, family keeping me busy.

A very close friend of mine introduced my to cycling 12 or 14 years ago and although I liked the idea and admired cyclists on the road ever since, I just never did anything about it He was quite active and did the first Kingston to Negril - 140 miles ride in Jamaica with 2 other friends, which is now an annual event for cyclists in Jamaica.

Recently I took a picture and the sight of my gut revolted me so much that I have decided to get into shape and use cycling to get my aeroblic workout. I got a bike on Friday and started riding on Saturday morning. About 1KM into the ride i realised just how out of shape I was and intend to really keep at this.

I am hoping to read and learn from the experiences of others here and would appreciate any comments forthcoming.

Regards

I'm in NYC but many years ago spent a week in Negril. This was before it got really touristy, around 1975 I guess. We were into rock music but had seen The Harder They Come so we were seeing Marley and the other reggae bands and figured we'd go see Jamaica. It was great. See, there was this mushroom tea someone gave us...

I wonder how someone manages to keep cool biking 140 miles in Jamaica? Well, I'm sure the roads are better now.

Keep up the biking, it's a great way to keep in shape and you have a pretty beautiful place to do it.
