That's a nice ride, so are you selling it? Any pics of the Trek?
here's some pics of the trek. i absolutely love the paint (ha, ha..). am considering repainting it soon, although i am kinda falling for the purple/red..
have new 8speed Sora shifters, a XeroLite wheelset (as well as a set of Alex's, shown on the bike instead of stock rims), XT rear der, Alvivo front, and i've already installed some Truvativ Elita cranks, etc. etc. i'll fix it up when finals are over. dumb college...

The white saddle/tape looks pretty darn good on that traditional red panel paint, MIN. Still looks racy with the Switchblade fork/disc and the low spoke wheels. Me likey.
I see you went ahead and got the Thomson with the 31.8 bars. How do you like them?

Thanks man. Aside from the obvious upgrade in aesthetics, the shape of the bar is much better for me and my cross-style riding and the setup is 200% stiffer.
I'm so OCD that it took me 3 hours to install and wrap the bars but I'm very happy with the results. I took the opportunity to trim the extra slack in the cables as well.
I'm looking at building a custom Chris King wheelset next. White Velocity Deep-V laced to CK hubs, methinks.

That'll look cool, but deep-v's are pretty hefty. I went with DT hubs on my bike to avoid the whole 'special tools required' thing with the CK's (plus they're red & black like my bike :P), laced to black Open Pro Ceramic rims with black dt supercomp spokes.

MIN,
The Hillsboro Stadium race is tomorrow morning. All that white needs some mud. That bike deserves mud. Races start at 9:00am.
$45 for the frame, some scavenging around my garage and I got a cross bike. Rode it around the park today - "dirt is good"! Gonna look into upgrading to shifter-levers, but so far I like the bar-ends.

I normally post on classic vintage but here is something you cyclocross people might be interested.
I have finally finished a project that I have been working on for a while. I resurrected my old warhorse Holdsworth Professional for 25 more years of serious riding. It will be used as a cyclocross bike and a very fine one at that. Here are pics.
http://media5.dropshots.com/photos/397027/20071103/124712.jpg
http://media5.dropshots.com/photos/397027/20071103/124742.jpg

http://media3.dropshots.com/photos/397027/20071103/124734.jpg
The reason the project took so long was that the old stem was frozen in the forks. I think that the last time I adjusted it was in the early 90s. After much trying to remove it by pulling it out I finally resorted to cutting it out. After that was done the rest was easy.
This bike is now somewhat of a mongrel but a proud mongrel with great heritage. The wheels are built from Campy Super Record 36 hole hubs laced to old Mavic MA40 700cm clincher rims. After polishing the hub's cones and races and replacing the bearings they now spin silky smooth. The front derailleurs are Suntour Superbe Pro. The last before indexing. The are shifted with old Suntour ratcheting type bar shifters. The freewheel is a 12-23 tooth 7 speed Suntour New Winner. The crankset is an old Sugino 110 bolt diameter double with 170 mm length crank arms. The chainrings are 48 and 34 tooth.
The reason I was able to make this bike into a cyclocross bike is the fact that it was built for 27" wheels. When using 700cm rims you have to use long reach brake calipers and you also have clearance room for fatter tires. My brake calipers are Campy Super Record. The saddle is a Rolls with titanium rails mounted on to a Campy two bolt seatpost.
The handlebar, stem, and brake levers are the only new components on the bike. The handlebars are 46cm wide Richey bolted onto a Dimension stem with a two bolt clamp. The brake levers are Tektro aero and Cane Creek cyclocross.
I just took it on my first off road ride today. It ran beautifully. The brakes work great. The gears shifted great. I was a little worried about the gears not being low enough for some of the hills I will be climbing. The lowest gear got me up the hill with about the same effort as the lowest mountain bike gears that I use to climb. This gearing set up will do me just fine.
Right now the frame's paint job looks rough. I have sanded some rust spots off and covered them with clear coat. I also have some other rust spots. For right now I just plan to ride this baby over the winter. Mostly cross country mountain biking on gravel, dirt, and logging type roads. Next year I plan on giving this frame the restoration and new paint job it deserves.
Lets here it to 25 more years of service out of my old Holdsworth Pro. What an awesome bike!!!!

Kelly's were made in Ca. but unfortunately they went out of business in 06. It was a typical bad choice in business partner kind of deal. Sad story to say the least, Chris was a very well respected builder and built some of the finest bikes I have ever ridden. I also own a Kelly deluxe mountain bike. if you want to know more about the company and what they built the site is still up.

I painted the frame myself with Sherwin-Williams Tile Clad II epoxy. The celeste color I also mixed myself (I took the water bottle to work to match it). It used to be a horrible mauve/white two-tone.

Your bike isn't really any different than that gorgeous Lemond a few posts back. The main difference is the Lemond has a great paint job. Very few companies, not custom makers, can build a frame as good as Waterford. You might want to think about a repaint on that bike. Good luck

Not any different besides the single chainring on the waterford, disc brakes on th lemond, carbon fork on one... ;)
Both very nice bikes though, obviously.

It hasn't stopped snowing since I got it. :( I'd like to support my LBS, which I just went to for the first time in over a year, but they don't even carry cross bikes, only flat bar roadies. And they didn't seem to pleased that I purchased a style of bike elsewhere, even though they don't stock them.
I went in there before looking for a bracket to mount a rear rack on our titanium tandem MTB. The kid suggested I go to Home Depot and get some metal strap, bend and drill it. This bike cost more than his car, and he's suggesting I just bend some cheap tin for a bracket. I guess that's one of the reasons I avoid bike shops.
Hehe, one time I went in to a shop to try out road race bikes and I now know for a fact that the sales kid is only into "big hit" type mountain stuff. He lowered the seatpost so it was like I was riding a DH rig  . Finally I just grabbed the allen key and said, "No, I think I want it a bit higher than that."

Thanks for the compliments! I went out riding mellow in the woods this afternoon and took a few shots. Here are some details of my hodgepodge of a bicycle with its mish-mosh of parts:
The black/yellow selle italia because I got it for super cheap and its comfy as heck.
http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w201/rodri9osilva/PC020003.jpg
Here you can see my drilled stem for the front brake routing. I always had a hard time routing the front brake through one of thise rigs with the brass 90 degree elbow, and when I did route it that way the front brake always felt like poop, so I drilled the stem for the housing to fit through the top and for the cable to pull through on the bottom: Instant brake stop and it feels crisp.

Showing off my polished-to-high-hell Dura-Ace cranks. They are 172.5's and I'm trying out the length again. I usually ride 170's (those are campangolo) but I got these DA's for $25 and hand polished them. Front ring is a 42T.

My first 'cross bike.
56cm Soma Doublecross, British racing green.
Ultegra 9-sp drivetrain, Dura-Ace bar-end shifters, Truvativ Elita cross cranks, Paul touring cantis and cross levers, WTB grease-guard headset, Salsa cages skewers (its all about the details) and moto-ace Bell Lap bars, Oval stem and post, Brooks B17, SKS fenders, C-dale hubs laced to Mavic CXP-21 rims, Ritchey tires.
I built it for riding paths and trails and doing light touring, haven't put a mile on it yet, but can't wait. I'm really excited to have a cross bike, it seems like it opened up a new realm of possibilities for my riding.
Hello, Ryan. I'm sorry to bother you, but I have to tell you how much I like how your cyclocross bike looks. I'm a 51 year old member (vice president) of a cycling club in SE Michigan, and the president of the club is interested in organizing offroad club rides for us club members. Of all the cyclocross bike pictures on Waterford's website ... and in Bikeforum ... for some reason I like yours the best. Must be the Brooks saddle (on all my bikes). :)
So far, I've acquired a Rivendell Saluki for touring ... this is a good bike with 650B wheels ... considering I am 5'3" tall with a pubic bone height of 76 cm. I've also acquired a Serotta Legend, which is too fragile for offroad riding.
I'm working with my LBS, to build up a Waterford X-14 frame. Can you tell me anything about your frame & fork ... also wheels & tires?
I have my wheels & tires figured out: A set of 32/32 hole 700C Synergy Velocity wheels for rough riding ... and a set of lightweight 28/28 tires made by Joe Young Wheels for offroad club riding.
The frame will be steel, and the specs for the X-14 are on the Waterford website. What I have not figured out is the forks. It seems the majority of cyclocrossers are using carbon forks. I kind of want to stay with steel forks, if anything, to be able to paint frame & fork in the same color.
Anyway, if you care to share information about your cyclocross bike, I'd really like to hear what you have to say ... especially about your forks (steel?). I'm hoping to pass cyclocross information to our club, to possibly increase the club's interest in cyclocross riding. My email address is below if you prefer to communicate that way.
Sincerely,
Motorad ... steveconatser@comcast.net

The Weapon.
Spot Brand, Sram Force, FSA Kwing bars, TRP carbon brakes,King HS, Thomson, Toupe.
Looks tiny, but is actually 60cm center-to-top, and 58 c-to-c. Nicest bike I have ridden next to my Colnago (which I really need to sell to finance this thing, but just can't seem to do it).
The wheels were a cheap way to get into a set of tubies. I'm hoping to have something proper by next season. Still deciding on whether or not to go to a single chainring, so I haven't messed with the gearing yet. This will also be remedied by next fall.
I got this frame from a friend for free, bought wheels and cranks, put it together with parts i had lying around... I think itīs pretty cool, for the price (~250). Tange, triple butted.

Using a digital bathroom scale with me as the tare weight I got 19.0 lbs with the bike as pictured. Maybe I'll get something more official when I get rid of the boat-anchor seatpost and stem.
Dura Ace cranks with sora derailleur and shifter? Sweet frame and fork? That's my kind of bike. Looks like you have your priorities straight!

Timo, what cranks are those? BTW, I hate you.
The fork is an "Advanced". Asian made and sold by Empella as the "Carbonfire". But quite stiff at 550 grams uncut.
The cranks are 172.2 mm Storck Powerarms. 315 grams for the two arms. But I'm thinking about a switch to Clavicula - just to make sure you'll definitely hate me ;)
