Let's see, I need...
A new crankset
New wheels
Some more tires
Maybe some different bars.
Oh and a chain retention device of some sort. But my broke self will probably just bolt the front derailleur back on. Ugly, but good enough to get me through the season.

Looks like you may need a link or 2 in your chain to. :) Looks great.
BTW, you can get a BBG bashgaurd for $10 or 2 for $20.

I'll look into the BBG bashes, thanks.
But with the long cage the chain just WANTS to drop. That's why I was running it short. It mostly just looks funny because that derailleur is meant to take up a much larger range of gearing than it currently is. Shifts fine.

If it's work'n for you then cool.
If it's work'n for you then cool.
Thing is it's not really working :o
I do appreciate the tip on BBG bashes. I'll be checking them out.

Okay, this is just sort of an experiment. I got some 30mm Kenda Kwick tires and jammed them into my 89 Trek 660.

41x17 freewheel. Seems really low on the flats, but the hills above Tahoe City convinced me otherwise. I think I'll try 39x17.

I took it for a 14 mile up-and-down ride through Burton Creek State Park behind North Lake Tahoe H.S. on Saturday. God, that was fun!

I知 new to the whole cross bike scene, I have raced cyclocross however for the last 15 years. I was usually on a FS bike with the fastest rolling tires I could find. Hopefully I値l do better this year.
This is a Kuota Kross I just picked up, I have made one trail ride on it on one of the more technical trails that I ride and it did fine with the exception of the horrible front brake shudder. My buddy had some new old stock Avid Tri-align II brakes that I put on and it solve the shuddering problem and it actually stops now
One ride and I知 already upgrading stuff, this sounds like trouble!!!:thumb:

That's right, I've been racing cross on a SS mountain bike or whatever FS bike I had at the time. I was usually the only one in the "A" race not on a cross bike. The new cross bike seems a tick faster:thumb:

Thank you!
If u have most of the parts. Do it u wont regret it. I rode a carbon canti cross frame last year and its just no camparison so far. Love the discs and u cant beat a TI frame in looks atleast not in my opinon.
I have a cx disc only fram in ti size 56ish thats arriving in a month, new from factory (not a serotta tho).
Might sell it if it turns out a too small wich i think it will :(
cheers
tuscanyswe, nice ride. it looks like markjenn's bike who posted a while back.
Hi, it's been raining for a couple weeks here in Seattle and I just can't bear taking my new bike out on wet roads, so I'll post a picture here:

We are close, I live on the border between Bby, and New west (10th and Caribou). We should ride.

Tried a race SS instead of geared.. fun, but the course was super flat and I was running 38x20, which means over the hour I got slowly dropped off the back. It was still loads of fun though. On the fence whether I should go with the SS again next weekend.
Posting that here since I've never posted a pic of that bike before... here's an action shot of me and my dirty Bia-ch.

Current cyclocross bike. New cranks, saddle and stem.
Aesthetic question... I have an inkling to go with blacked-out wheels. Would that look significantly better in anyone's opinion? Not sure. Toying with the idea of mango Chris King hubs and headset too...

HI
Nice looking bike, what frame/fork is that?
U cant go wrong with black wheels in my opinion!
Mango headset and hubs isent for me tho. Dont think it look good, looks like u r trying to hard.
CK silver hubs with silver headset is always gonna get my vote. Black is ofc okay too. If silver hubs, silver spokes with carbon rims is a nice combo :)

That bike is hot. And I say stick with the silver rims.
Thanks, it's a Gunnar Crosshairs. I got them to make it without logos.
After thinking about it, I agree no funky colors.
Still can't do carbon rims, I'm kinda big. :)
I think it just looks a bit unbalanced... top is all black, bottom is all silver. The old crankset was black, and changing to Ultegra changed the balance a bit. Thought a bit more black on the bottom would look better. Still open to ideas!

Since u r thinking of king hubs im guessing money is atleast not your main concearn.
Carbon rims are expensive but if your only reason not to is weight then maybe check nimbleエs horsefly rims they are reinforced and with 32h im using em for discbrakes.
they aint crazy expensive but they are definetly not low budet either.

Haven't raced with them... I don't race. The cross bike is my 'all arounder' for fun when I don't feel like getting lycra'd up or doing full MTB trail riding.
I can say they're good on single track. SoCal has very hard pack ground with dusty ball-bearings sprinkled on top, with ruts and rocks thrown in too. These tires handle that well, and have good grip for muscling up steep climbs. They're not great for fast turns on pavement... I've had a few close calls where they broke loose; I think it's the slight gap between the knobs in the center and the outside.
I also ride with Vittoria Cross EVO XN clinchers, and in comparison these are harder, a bit less supple, and better on technical climbs. The Vittorias corner fast better and have ridiculous grip on grass and softer ground. The Vittorias are overall better, but you definitely pay for the difference.
