My newest cross bike with a mullet:

http://static.flickr.com/96/281320805_e90a118620_o.jpg

Who needs the Bianchi Roger? My main reason for doing this modification was that when I use the bike for my winter ride, I wanted to go fixed but not with the weak front CC canti as my only brake.

Yeah, it is. I was just about to change to my new wheel (flip/flop hub), but I took the picture first. Thanks nonetheless.

Just got my Rocky Mountain Solo CXR today. I don't have a digital camera so I'll just have to post a stock pic.

The only difference between mine and the stock pic is that mine came with an Easton EC90X fork. Apparently the factory accidentally put a bunch of those on instead of the EC70 ones, so I basically got a free fork upgrade. :) Spoon!

Supposedly Rocky had contracted with Easton for the EC70X, but Easton ran out due to underestimating the demand. Rocky, who has a good relationship with Easton, got the 90X's at the same cost so they could ship the bikes. Definately sweet for the consumer!

Here are some shots of my Rob Roy before the race. It's a bit heavy for a race rig, but it felt nice and solid during the race. :)

Nice. I just built up the same frame as a commuter. How'd you get the decals off?

How does that frame ride [165]? I have been eying the Pompino for a bit but have yet to see one in person or hear a ride report.

What rims did you use?

It reminds me of my SPOT Singlespeed I had 7 years ago (or was it 6?). It is very comfortable for hardpack trails and is a smooth handler. I feel at home in the positioning it provides for stock geometry and it actually fits near perfectly from what I can tell. The frame is well constructed and seems well-suited for its intended purpose. I have only had it out for a total of 9 hours of riding (none of them race hours yet) and have put it through whatever trails I can locate - there are some hidden BMX paths nearby and it performed in nicely there.

The process by which I acquired the frame was more of a trial - yet the On*One/Zedsport folks really helped me out. A few problems, but they always kept in contact. I even scored a free knit beanie from being super patient since the order was mis-routed!
Make sure you go through Zedsport if you order a frame - and call it in!

auk - check the specs in the original post.

Well that's a shot that loves to love - nice bike. Is that the 54 or 55.5 effective top tube frame?

pitboss

55.5 - I am 5'10" with a 32 inseam. There was a slight misunderstanding on the frame size, (I ordered through On*One at first, but my order was re-routed to Zedsport - the short story is it worked out perfectly, just had to be patient), but a man from the Zedsport facility called to double-check before they shipped - otherwise, I would have ended up with the XL, which is 57.6cm TT.
Like I said - good folks at On*One/Zedsport

Was it the older guy w/ the British accent at Zedport? I swear, he must be the only one in the whole place.

5'10" - 33.5 inseam over here. I should go for a 54ett Pompino based on my freakishly short torso, but then I'd be dealing with a head tube that's way too short and a ridiculous amount of drop from the saddle to the bars. Thanks for the info on everything, this helps me visualize my setup.

Nice. I just built up the same frame as a commuter. How'd you get the decals off?

I used a razor blade and an acute angle to slowly carve the decals off. The razor was at a 15 degree angle or so. I did manage to scrape the coating a bit here and there. I only noticed the scraps for a day or two though.

Give yourself a good hour or more to remove the decals.

Set up for winter commuting at the moment. I built these wheels just for running in snow and crap, Coda competition hubs (which I've been told are a DT product), Mavic SUP rims, Sapim db spokes, 28h 2X. I'm running a single ring (42) and one bar-end for shifting the DA 7800 series rear derailleur. Empella brakes and levers. I have another set of wheels that are tubulars (DA/fir st-120 32 3x) that have Vittoria EVO XGs and I actually prefer those for snow over 4". The bars on this bike are an old set of Modolos off my early 90s era Pinarello, I really like the bend on them but no cable channels- people used to drill them and run the cables internally for what were called "aero levers" back then. I think Empellas are sturdy MFing frames-probably a little too sturdy, weighs as much as a surley I bet:roflmao:

Thanks. I keep yearning for one of the new Redline conquest team's but I think I'll probably keep this bike forever, or at least until the fork falls-apart which I've heard some rumors about.

custom frame made by me (jacobs bicycles)

thomson elite stem, idb wing bars,
shimano rsx on mavic sup's,
oldschool mavic mtb triple with single 46 ring on a phil bb,
dura ace, cheap carbon saddle
shimano 600 geared bits, cane creek brakes

the prototype "team" cross bike!

already getting rusty, probably won't be getting paint. ever. it's so fitting to have this one rusty and dirty.

these tires are great for running over anything in your path, but i do switch 'em out for something a little tighter for the races.

Agreed. It is heavy and looks like you could fit a 2.2 29'r tire in there. A riding buddy swapped his for the Ritchey carbon and dropped over 1/2 pound with no lose of stiffness.

super duper clearance for the cross courses that go through wet clay? Also I've heard they are pretty stinkin heavy as well.

02-01-07, 09:12 AM
If you need that type of mud clearance, two things are/will be working against you. The rear stays will be packed, and/or you need different tires. I've found that the tires that pack up, also contribute to most of the build up on the frame/fork. Seen it happen on the same frame/fork but with different tires.

I guess Specialized wanted to have the ability to run fenders with 45c tires and STILL have mud clearance in that fork. :)

Here's my new (used) 2007 Giant TCX. Got a sweet deal on it through EBay. Didn't come with pedals or a seat so i added some Crankbrothers Eggbeater SL pedals and a Forte Classic saddle. The chain was also pretty messed up (looked like it was coated with rust but it's just some really really really bad looking lubricant that didn't want to come off). It looks like the cranks could be new and the rest of the frame is in great shape. Seller said it only had about 500 miles on it.

The only thing i'll probably change later this year is to swap out the V-brakes to cantilevers. Oh yeah, gotta add some water bottle cages, find a way to fit a front fender, and add afew other things to make it commuter worthy (it's going to be my cyclocross/commuter bike). :D
