Took some new pictures of my kona today:
those are beautiful pics. Love the contrasting colours.
A few pics after some training sessions on Saturday. I never get over the handling of this bike. It's just on rails.

Just got it yesterday. My first cross bike
38721
38722
It's been on the commuting forum, but what the hell, I'll post it here too (it's an old crossbike, after all):

btw, it's the sweetest ride!

Nice bike! I like mine too.

I discovered the snow-ice traction limits on those vittorias this morning though.

LOVE the Orange!!!! :D
So I'm a newb at CX bikes. I am looking into buying one - or maybe a full road bike, can't decide.
From a speed perspective, does the additional weight of a CX bike (also the addition rolling resistance) make you significantly slower than a road road bike? Why do you prefer a CX rig over a road? Doesn't the lax geometry effect handling relative to a road bike?
thanks in advance.
I just got it built up on Friday. Sweet ride and light! 19.01 lbs as is, but I'm sure when I get finished with it, it'll be just under 18. Not too light, but just light enough. I'll have to get a smaller pic, this one is too big.. I'll post later...

Well... you answered a question for me!
Commuting all winter in Montreal, QC, I have found that the combination of Conti Twister in front & Ritchey Speed Max in back works well if I run about 45 psi. Anything more, then traction is virtually non-exisitent.
When there is black ice, nothing really works...

I shoulda had the studs on or at least 10 psi less. Tubulars with 35psi are pretty confidence inspiring in soft snow.
Just finished my first cross build. :D

Chimivee, that looks like a nice solid ride! Did you build up everything?
Chimivee, that looks like a nice solid ride! Did you build up everything? Thanks. I'm having a blast on it!
Yeah, built it, ground up. It started life as a NOS eBay find:
http://three91.com/bike/conquest/PC071648.jpg
I tried to keep a tight budget - so it was a mix of new and used parts from eBay, local sellers, and the usual online retailers. Let's see...
'02 Conquest Pro frame/fork
Ultegra Brifters
Truvative Rouleur Compact Crank, currently 34/50 (will probably swap to a 46T big ring)
12-27 Cassette
105 Derailleurs
Ritchey WCS Handlebar
Forte Stem
Korso Wheelset
Speemax Pro 32 Tires (tightest tires I've EVER mounted, emphatically confirmed by the bike shop whose assistance I finally solicited :o - and they had a tough time too, even with a bead jack and an extra set of hands!)
Avid Shorty 4 Brakes
Selle Flite Saddle (just switched from the crappy hand-me-down Fuji in the previous photo)
Eggbeater Pedals
Got this back in October and have over 1200 miles on it, replaced stock wheels with hand built at the LBS with DT SwissTK7.1 XT/Ultegra. Replaced a bent rear derailleur with an ultegra one, stock one got bent at hippie hollow at lake travis at the halfway point of a ride, no clue how that happened. The way back was hell chain kept falling off and locking up back wheel and changing gears constantly on it's own. Other than that it's been trouble free and loads of fun.
NEW BIKE TOMORROW!
WOOT!
to be continued...
2007 Kona Jake the Snake, about a month old :D
It's pretty much stock. I replaced the junky tubular straddle cables with real ones and raised them to prevent squealing and increase mud clearance. Other than that, it's pretty much stock except for saddle and pedals.

Ok, it's not exactly cyclocross, but this is my fiancee's new bike. Part of the deal was that if I get a new bike, she gets one. It's her first "serious" bike since a ten-speed as a kid, but she's pretty into it.

Here is my Cyclocross bike. Saved the frame from the trash (1975 Schwinn Sprint frame).
Built from a mishmash of parts I had laying around except for the wheels/tires (well..wheel at this point since I still have to finish the rear) Eventually will run front and rear hub brakes in a 45x20 gear combo.
Still need to replace saddle (this one is a loaner hence the weird color) but I figured the bike can't get much weirder anyways ... :D

Weird? Its Bianchi Celeste! If I had to choose between replacing the bike to match the saddle or replace the saddle to match the bike....I would definitely keep the saddle!!!
Lol...I do have the Bianchi to match. but the saddle isn't mine at this point anything would look good...I may be getting a very special one...I'll post update pics once I have it, along with the built rear wheel.
Nice! I love the hub brake idea.
What's that rim you used for the front wheel? Chrome lugs are übercool but I'm not sure about the drum brakes. I do like the semi-retro black Bianchi but FOR THE LOVE OF GOD why didn't you go for Campagnolo? :)
Today I had some fun. Last week I came home from work on my singlespeed beater bike and some guys I passed made some loud comments bashing my bike as crap. I had a look at their bikes which were very nice but nothing special. Two days ago the sun was out so I commuted to work on my weightweenie bike and noticed that I passed the same guys ago...who were very quiet this time. Then today I came home from work on the weightweenie cyclocross bike and there I passed the same guys again. Now not just silent but clearly green with envy. I usually do not care about comparing my bikes with others but I must say that I enjoyed this particular situation very much :D
front wheel has a Velocity Deep V rim, chocolate colored, non machined ... since I don't need braking surfaces ... rear will have the same as well. All built up on a crow's foot patterned drum brake hubs ...
Both modified to shed some weight (the only downside of drum brakes)
As far as the Bianchi is concerned ... I know ... I had the parts laying around from a previous bike I sold since ... but this issue will be resolved as soon as I go back to the stock Nuovo record components :D
Marc, that bike is the ****. Rock it!!!
new paint!

Wow jacobs,
Really loved the bike in it's raw form and the painted version just adds to the grin factor. Awesome job.
I saw another Airborne Carpe Diem in this thread and thought 'how cool!' So here's my CX Carpe Diem.

New Bike.
Need to take some more interesting pictures of it, and do a lot more riding, but I am pleased so far after barreling through 6 miles of cross country courses down in Blue Ridge , GA.

I love that Schwinn!!! So sweet!! I was wondering what type of hub brake that is? I have recently built up a Sturmey Archer XFD front hub-braked wheel and was a little annoyed to find that the cable is only compatible with flat bar levers. Unless of course I want to do some major surgery..... Anyway, please let me know what hub brake that is and if it fitted drop levers straight out of the box. Close up pics of cable/hub connection? Please...

Thanks... I have the SRAM VT5000 front. I would say that the lever are borderline on giving enough pull. I am working on something that would increase my pull.
This is my cross capable rig in street wear. I do not have my cross mounted to my rims yet. Started life as a Specialized Crossroads Trail.

Here's my JTS outside my place of work...the building may look familiar :)

What size is that?
One more empella to add to the bunch. It has parts and stuff.

It's a 56 cm. Since that pic the brakes, seat, seat post, bars and stem have been changed :)

oh noooo... your crossing that slippery slope where you'll soon need a frame to find a home for all the displaced parts your collecting.
Whenever I replace a perfectly good part I quickly burn it to a smoldering paper weight. This keeps me from having to explain to my wife why I now have another bike. It also avoids the vicious cycle of replacing the parts on your parts bike which eventually leads to another parts bike which leads to another parts bike......
i digress.

Well if you aren't running an STI lever you could always take the easy way out and get a dia-compe v-brake compatatible road lever.

Thanks! She rides like a dream...

Minus the www.empella.com. Which, you know, isn't their site. :P I just noticed that.
