I do more road and paved trail riding. I looking for slicks or semi slicks for my mountain bike. What tires do you recommend?

Specialized. They're like no other.

Continental Contacts. I have a set and they are awesome. Superb handling, fast and durable. The Specialized will fit the bill as well. Which ever you LBS stocks, buy. You'll be happy either way.

DO NOT buy Hutchinson Top Slicks. They suck like no other.

If you don't enjoy flats:

Narrow: Specialzed Nimbus Armadillos. Good for paved roads.
Wide: Specialized Hemisphere Armadillos. Good for paved roads, dirt, and gravel if you are careful and don't get carried away.

If you are looking for the absolute fastest tire out there that fits your 559 erto mountain bike rim, then take a look at the schwalbe stelvio. 120 psi 1" width. This tire defeated everything in rolldown tests.

Specialized Nimbus Armadillo, 1.5"

Perfect for road, but not so slick that you fear the rain.

Hutchinson Acrobat 1.35"s... really thin and fast... and ive never ever ever flatted on them!

Another vote for the Specialized Nimbus or their replacements

I just mounted four of these:

on our Trek 6700s. Cheap, easy, huge improvement over the wider slicks we had.
