Texas - Anyone want to help me install some brake cables?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Gang, I have a 80s Schwinn Le Tour that I have been converting to a town bike. I have upright bars, new vintage style brake handles from Velo Orange, new brake cables, housing, Park cable cutter, nice workshop, nice bike stand...I'll be your best friend if someone will drop by and give me a lesson on installing brake cables. I have all the parts and tidbits needed, I simply lack the know how.
I'll provide the beer, coffee, cigars, crack, well not crack, but oh well...Anyhow I live near Beltline and Coit road in far north Dallas. Late weekday evenings are good for me (like after the kids are in bed, 9ish) or weekend morning or afternoons are good.
I just ordered a new Schwinn Madison today and I have a feeling my wife is going to want me to sell one to make room for it so getting this one running is a priority! Thanks!
Chris

it's not that hard. especially since you have the Park cutters. just remember to measure the length before cutting, and allow enough slack for the bars to turn all the way.

Just remember to pull the cable out of the housing before you cut the housing to length.:o Nothing much to it other than that.

I'm soooo ashamed to admit that I did this once...
Hey, give it a shot and if you just absolutely can't figure it out I'll drop by to give you a hand. My free time is pretty limited though. I'm in Plano, btw.

Did you get some help with this?
I'm clear tomorrow afternoon. And I have a couple of quill stems for you to choose from, (I yanked them off the old bikes and then forgot about them - sorry).

Not yet, that would be cool if you could lend me a hand. And the quill...Well it turns out the quill size I have is weird, like .833 or something...I posted about it in the C&V forum. I thought it was 1" but it something like .833"
Anyhow, I'll PM you some details. Thanks
Just saw this post. I am tied up all day today, but tonight or tomorrow I might be able to lend a hand if needed.

Jsharr, thanks for the offer. MMACH 5 came by today and we put those cables on nicely. I've got brake cables and his daughter now has some thumb shifters for her bike. How cool is that?
MMACH 5 thanks again man! I really appreciate the help. Maybe next time I can do it myself :-)
Chris!
glad to know it got done. Sounds like a win win for everyone.
