I have 2 small crackes in my GT strike road bike frame.They are just above the front forks on the main frame.Any ideas on welding them.

Not familar with that particular bike, if the frame is AL then the answer is no! If the bike has a lifetime warranty or at least a limited time warranty that's still good because you purchased it recently; then take it back to the LBS.

It is Al.It is prior 2001 GT they will not warranty it.

Sorry about that Ditch. But I would not ride it because when AL fails it does so fast without warning (it was a good thing you found it first before it found you!). The manufactures are smart today, they do not give lifetime warranties on AL frames like most do with steel. BUT Trek does have a lifetime warranty on theirs and I think Cannondale does as well. But Cannondale is a huge hassle to get them to respond with warranty work or replacement-their average turn around time is 6 months, Treks is about 2 to 4 weeks.

Specialized has a lifetime warranty too... actually isn't Trek 5 yrs now?

I can't speak to an average, but when I found a crack in my C-dale, I was given a new updated frame and new updated matching fork in about two weeks. I paid the shop to install a new BB and headset - other than that there was no cost.

Here is their address. I had a look at the website, they used to have a top notch one. There is some talk of their new road bikes (I had heard that they were not making them any more), but when you click on "pavement", you only get comfort bikes. The warrenty part is "coming soon".

Not according the owners manual PDFs on Trek's web site. "Trek Bicycle Corporation warrants each new Trek bicycle frame and rigid fork against defects in workmanship and materials for the lifetime of the original owner."

You were lucky, I had a friend on the west coast who broke 2 Cannondales and each time it took right around 6 months to get a new frame. When I mentioned this problem on another forum a lady responded from the east coast claiming it took her husband 9 months. When I spoke to an LBS about this that sold Cannondales they replied that that was the reason they were dropping their line because of 6 month average wait times. But this was prior to their bankruptcy so maybe things have gotten better.
