Hi, I am new to your forum and I am 70 yoa male and I live in Albury NSW.
I have been Bicycle racing and touring in England and Australia for the past 55 years and the same as you guys I have had many near misses with motorists coming to close and sometimes cutting in front of me. Back in 1969 I was hit when on the Nepean Highway at Aspendale AT 12.30 am ,and spent 4 months recovering in the Alfred Hospital, I was one of the lucky ones.
As a part solution I have designed and had manufactured a Bright Yellow BIB type Top with the words
JUST
1
METRE
PLEASE
⎯ ➜
printed in Black type across the back.

I am trying to get TAC and RTA to come on board and help with sponsorships.
If you email me I can send you a copy of the Photos we have just had taken by our local Newspaper the 'Border mail '.
Please comment I really would like your feedback.

Cheers Ian

How about a bib that says:

I'll
Leave
A Dent

Or maybe:

Next
Of Kin,
Lawyer

Ya know... appeal to their own self service.

The only problem is that drivers may think "f*** you" and deliberately buzz you as you had the cheek to ask them to obey the law.

Let me translate that into the old-style, non-metric units we still use in the USA:

This is now the law in my state.

Hi, all,
I still say that we need to educate drivers and make them realize that we need room to ride safely.

I think it's a good idea to raise awareness, although where I live the arrow has to be on the other side :P

+1 And it would have to say "1 yard", or "3 feet" here! ;)

The U.S. should have listened to Ben Franklin and adopted the metric system 200 years ago.

We don't drive on the left side of the road in the United States. We drive on the right-hand side.
And we don't use the metric system very much, and when we do , we spell it "meter".

I like the design of the 3 feet to pass website, but I can't print it.

Ian,they are not yet accustomed to bikes on the road yet in the States(ignorant of laws) .Gas is still cheap compared to your surroundings. We will catch up eventually but till then it,s a battle for space on our roads.
