Pickup truck drivers on rural roads are the worst.
I don't like them and I am sure the feeling must be mutual as it appears at least to me that some appear to target cyclists.. The latest being this afternoon on my way home from work, no shoulder, light traffic'd rural road, 35mph speed limit. I'm riding maybe 6" from the edge of the road just inside the painted white line going 19mph, car approaching and all of the sudden I hear a diesel truck accellerate behind me blowing by less than a foot away.. Scared the heck outa me, especially by the second blast of air that swooshed by from the oversized dual wheeled trailer he was towing. What is it with drivers of pickup trucks? The guy could have lifted his lazy *****'d foot off the gas pedal for a few seconds till the approaching car had cleared then passed around me at a safe distance (there were no other cars behind him) but I guess in his feeble mind, he felt like his 'right' to not be held up by a bicycle was all that mattered and my safety was of no concern of his. I really have no idea what he was thinking but it happens too often and it's usually someone in a full size pickup. I've had them pass then turn right in front of me making me hit the brakes, others slow down, roll down their window and verbally harrass me, and the times (yes happens fairly regularly when the weather gets nice...) when a diesel truck slows down along side then floors the throttle just to blanket me in their exhaust cloud. Sometimes I wonder if the riding is actually safer in the city. OK ranting is over.
