Hi!
How about an organized ride where you get to pick your own challenge?
Haven't had time for a lot of training this year? Interested in riding
just your favorite Death Ride(TM) passes without having to do them
all? Want to spend a day enjoying beautiful Sierra vistas and great
cycling roads?
The Alta Alpina Challenge: Riding the Wild Sierra (www.altaalpina.org/challenge (http://www.altaalpina.org/challenge))
is for you!
http://www.sagebum.com/BikeJ09/May/Wild%20Sierra%20Jersey.JPG
The ride takes place on Saturday, June 13th, near Lake Tahoe in the
California Alps region of Alpine County, California, and Douglas
County, Nevada.
With our online ride planner and club ride consultants we will help
you choose a ride for your interest and ability level. The options are
almost limitless. For those registered in the Death Ride, this is a
good opportunity to do a SAGged training ride for the big day on July
11th.
The Build Your Own Challenge let's you Be as Wild as You Dare. You
choose from 1 to 6 of these passes to ride: Kingsbury, Luther, Carson,
Blue Lakes, Monitor West, and Monitor East. It's like putting together
a meal from a chinese menu--every combination of passes offers
different amounts of climbing and rolling terrain and different kinds
of scenery. One pass rides offer a great day of challenge with
distances of 30 to 60 miles and 3600 to 4800 feet of climbing. Adding
additional passes lets you add to your challenge with more climbing,
mileage, fabulous scenery, and of course some really fun descents.
- Kingsbury pass allows cyclists to enjoy the rolling terrain of
the foothills before taking in the sweeping vistas of Carson Valley on
the climb
- Luther pass includes beautiful Woodfords canyon with views of
granite cliffs and waterfalls in the morning without the heat,
traffic, and wind that come later in the day
- Carson pass offers high alpine vistas with views of the
surrounding peaks
- Blue Lakes is the hidden gem of Alpine County--some of the best
cycling you'll find anywhere
- Monitor Pass is the Alpine County Classic. The west side start
with some steep climbing with sweeping vistas towards the top. The
east side offers 10 miles of sustained climbing with a nearly constant
grade and views of the great basin.
Ebbetts Pass isn't part of the Build Your Own Challenge (our permit
strictly limits the number of riders on Ebbetts) but riders who want
to include this pass in their ride can upgrade to our 8 Pass Challenge
and just ride any of the passes they want to.
Concerned about leaving your family behind for another cycling
weekend? Bring them along! Our Kid Carson Challenge with distances
from 7 to 27 miles on lightly traveled roads in the foothills lets you
share your love of riding. Its also a great opportunity to introduce
your friends and family members to an organized cycling event--youd be
surprised how far theyll ride for cookies.
