I want to switch out the stock pedals on a gary fischer Cobia to standard pedals for the time being. Is there any specific pedal I should be looking for?

Platforms with grippy traction pins could prove to be beneficial

If you want grippy make sure the pins are steel, not part of the molded alloy body.
My current fav is the Truvativ, but there's plenty of others...

Personally, I'd aim for some Azonic Fusion mag's. They are lighter than my clipless pedals, and very grippy (I've never slipped with them in any conditions including riding in the snow and ice, with snow and ice on the pedal itself) and fairly cheap (can be had for 35$ shipped). Well worth the cost, IMO.

I was looking at the website of the company that makes eggbeaters. They have a clipless with platform. Those look like a good compromise.
Is there any real downside to going that route?

crank brothers are OK - they have pretty good customer service - I tried the egg beater and HATED them. - that is basically an egg with a platform around it.

if you are interested in platforms with clips check out the Forte Campus pedal. Cheap and sturdy.

I personally don't use them but I've seen a lot DH riders using the Shimano DX Platform SPD. The pic below is a PD-M424 with a resin cage but I believe there's different models with alloy cages.

i just bought a set of Kona jack**** (please excuse the name haha) primos if you want them...
ended up finally getting the 5050 by cb. my original cheapo metal ones were cutting my legs up badly everytime (if) i fell forward off my bike.

The local bike store got me into some Time Atac XS pedals and some Shimano MTB shoes.
The Time pedals have a wider base than most of the SPD pedals I’ve seen. After talking with them, they said that they were probably the best way to go. I’m putting them on and riding Saturday so I’ll let everyone know how well I like them.
