Lot of people use 'Knee Savers'. That extra 20mm, 25mm, or 30mm is just the ticket for all-day clipless pedaling w/o discomfort or pain. It's just the price that shocks many (~$50 including shipping) and some (re)turn to platform pedals if they want to continue to ride their bikes.

I hadn't heard of these until this post though I had started to wonder if something like this existed. My foot angles out (right foot points out to the right, angled from the ankle) in such a way that when I'm not paying attention to it I've had the "bump" on the inside of the ankle actually hit my crank multiple times.

Such has brought the question to my mind, is it better to try and correct this consciously in an attempt to correct and realign my foot in a more forward fashion, or, should I leave my body as it is and just use something like petal extenders to fit my bike to me? (And would petal extenders be the (or a) correct option in a situation such as mine?

You can't force your knee into an unnatural position, you have to do what comes naturally. If I try to keep my foot straight, my right knee hurts a lot. I can't use clipless pedals without the extenders.
I learned about the position by using flat pedals, with straps, and touring shoes and let my feet find their position.
We all aren't the same and we all aren't symmetrical.

Now I understand!!
Thanks, I've never seen those before, didn't know they existed....
Yeah I can see the problem with the price of them, don't look like they cost that much to manufacture???

In general, one adjusts almost everything else so the bike fits them better and is comfortable even on long rides. Pedals and foot positions are no different. Adding or using a pedal extender is just another adjustment. They even make clipless pedals in different lengths, so someone is aware that 'one size' doesn't fit all. Muscle pain is one thing, but pain in the joints is a serious problem that needs to be addressed quickly to prevent short and long term damage.

You can find them on eBay for $22 w/ free shipping, but most LBS's will charge 40-60 and will more than likely have to order them.... I got the 20mm long ones to start since my problem should be fixed with this length....
