i'm doing the udder. hoping the turn out is as good as last year. that was a lot of fun.

the Udder has always been the ride to do for the BFNIC. great ride, sadly i will miss it this year. later.

My wife has type 1 diabetes,and has an insulin pump.It acts as an artificial pancreas slowly giving small amounts of insulin thruout the day like your pancreas does.Then when you eat you give a larger amount of insulin for the meal,it really keeps your blood sugar under control.Greg should look into this for his daughter,my friends son developed type one diabetes and he got him a pump and he's doing great!If he wants to talk to my wife pm me and I'll give you my phone number.For type 1 diabetics it is very hard to keep your blood sugar under control with just insulin injections.

Thanks mridan. They have finally gotten her stabilized on an insulin pump. She is much better now, just as you suggested. Only 8 years old... man. Had a pretty tough time on the whole family figuring out the problem and getting it under control.

Thats great news!It saddens my heart when I hear a child suffering from this disease.My friends son was diagnosed when he was 5,and he waited a year or two to get him a pump,the sooner the better.I have seen adults who have had type one diabetes all there life and not kept under control,they suffer from blindness,amputations,and kidney failure.I hope and pray they soon find a cure.

Tour de Cure... but I haven't ridden in 7 weeks. We just had a baby and I haven't had time to ride. I'm hoping to cram the next couple of weeks in hopes of hitting the 100. I went for a quick hard 20 two days ago and now my arse hurts. I'm in for some serious pain on the 13th. :/

Ah yes that's only 1.5 hours Southwest of me. That could be a great first century for me; it would give me 4 months increase my saddle-stamina.

The Apple Cider Century was my first century four years back. It's a perfect first 100 miler. And they have potato soup at the later rest stops if the weather is a bit chilly.

As for finding out about rides, shops usually have pamphlets advertising the rides and in some cases the League of Illinois Bicyclists will send out a whole packet if you sign up for a previous year's ride. Many of us are lucky that tons of these rides start/finish out near our homes on the edge of Chicago's exurbs.

I was going to ride Udder but don't really feel like taking any chances on rain so I doubt I'll go. I don't have proper gear but mainly it'd be my first century and I don't feel like doing the first one in anything but good conditions.

I've been planning on doing the Udder but unsure now because of the chance of rain. Kind of a pain for me to get out there and debating if it's worth it with possible t-storms. But then another part of me softly chants "wimp, wimp, wimp"...

Thanks to everyone who rode the TdC! (and it's ok if you rode the udder:)) Rode my third TdC in Redmond Wa a few weeks back, I think the TdC is a ride that I will always do. My wife is diabetic and all this support sure makes a difference!
