Bicycle Mechanics - So I'm kinda stuck...literally

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Went for my usual lunch hour ride on my fixie yesterday. Everything's coming along fine, I'm feeling good, bike seems fine. I barely clipped out of my pedals the whole ride as I was able to either time the lights right or semi-track stand if I caught one. Once I get back to my car though I'm unable to clip out from my left pedal.Seems like my cleats are loose or the tension got messed up somehow. Once of the bike I realize the cleat is fully seated in the pedal and my shoe can rotate almost 180 degrees. I also notice a bolt lying near my friend...specifically my cleat bolt from my left shoe. Any suggestions on removing my stuck shoe from my pedal? These are Specialized MTB pedals and cleats BTW. Thanks in advance.

You should be able to go in from the side with a screwdriver and rotate the cleat.

Or pry the cleat open (as if you're stepping into it).

The first thing I would do would be to turn down the tension on the pedal all the way if you can. Be careful not to unthread the tension screw to the point where it comes out. Then you should be able to pry it out with a screw driver.

I untensioned the pedal and was able to easily pry the shoe and semi-attached cleat from the pedal with a screwdriver. Then I tightened all my cleat bolts...they were all loose! Thanks for the help all!!
