While on the MUP and alone, I enjoy listening to to the MP3. On group rides or while on the road, no way.

Can anyone recommend an earbud with a snug fit, cuts out the wind noise well, and provides good sound quality? Or point me to a recent thread posting suggestions - i didn't find anything recent. Thanks

My favorite IEMs are the EP630 or CX300, depending on which is cheaper at the moment. Right now, that's the CX300 (http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-CX300-B-Earbuds-Black/dp/B000E6G9RI/ref=pd_bxgy_e_text_b). I've done almost 1100 miles on the road, sidewalk, and MUP since August, and all but a handful of them have been with IEMs in place. I don't rely on my hearing to keep out of trouble.

Thanks for the good suggestions. I'll look at the reviews on these and pull the trigger soon.

If you want a high level of background noise attenuation and fantastic sound quality, try some Etymotic ER6.

Could also try Shure, starting at the SE110:

One nice thing about them is that the wire loops over the ear, which keeps the cables from loosening the buds from your ear.

I wonder how those Skullcandy earbuds sound; they'd be much less of an investment than the Shures (meaning, if you decide you don't like in-ear earbuds, you're not out $100+).

Don't know your budget but I have v-moda and love them.

I was planning on pulling the trigger on the Sennheiser CX300-B's based on their reviews, but I thought I'd ask my younger daughter if she had any earbuds she wasn't using. Turns out she had a pair of the Skullcandy ink'd buds (http://www.amazon.com/Skull-Candy-SC-INKD-Blk-Skullcandy/dp/B000Q74102) sitting around - I had already bought them, but didn't realize it.

For $13 earbuds, these sound great. They fit snug, kept the wind noise down and didn't slip or fall out at all. I could clearly hear the music, rather than having to turn up the volume to compensate for the wind. No need to spend more than this IMO. Thanks for the input.

But, be careful. These cut the background sounds by 30 db. With the music on you won't hear anything from the environment. I'd definitely use a rear view mirror of some sort (I use Take a Look) and never use these on the road.

I have Shure E2C's. They sounded good but the plastic cable sheathing is not pliable enough & cracked and split where it curved around the back of my ears. That allowed the wire to bend at two small a radius and caused an internal break in the wire. Of course, it was a month after the warranty expired. Now they're useless without some micro-surgery that I'm not prepared to perform.

Since then, I got turned on to Westones ( http://www.westone.com/ ). 25db sound reduction, 2 yr. warranty and you can upgrade them with custom fit earpieces if you want/need to. And at just over $100 they cost less than the Shures and sound better. Plus they're made in the U.S. for those that care. They use dual wires that are much more pliable than the stiff crap Shure uses.

They have a "flat" response cuve, which I prefer over the phony bass attenuation and artificial coloring of most low to mid priced earbuds. People into a lot of bass or don't have equalizing capabilities may have a different opinion.

Check 'em out here if your interested in investing in some REALLY good compact earphones.

I have a $100 pair of Etymotic Research earbuds, but for listening to my iPod on rides I prefer my $10 pair of Philips earbuds. They sound good and they don't get loose and start to fall out of my ear like some other earbuds do.
