I've seen what looks like a Brompton folder/book/grocery black quite nice looking bag...it looks expensive though. Is it available in Australia? Also, how does it attach to the front rack? Would it work on a Dahon Vitesse front rack? Thanks heaps

You're probably referring to one of these. (http://www.brompton.co.uk/explorer/bikes/index.asp?s=9) They attach with a proprietary system - that is they only work on Bromptons without bodging. There is no front rack per se, just a small plastic carrying block bolted to the head tube.

As far as I can tell, the Dahon Vitesse doesn't have a front rack either. You may be able to use one of these (http://www.dahon.com/intl/accessories/luggage/mount.htm) if your frame has the right attachment.

Very interesting rbrian, I never knew (as a Brompton rider) that Dahon had a similar system on some of their bikes.

Does anyone know if there is any interchangeability between the two systems? Essentially the Brompton block attaches with 2 bolts, 25mm apart, it would just be a question of spacing on the Dahon system.

I could see these being very appealing to some Brompton owners (I've always wanted Ortlieb bags on my Brommie... here's me wishing)

Thanks for your help with that. Yeah that is definitely the bag I mean. It looks sort of business like but looks like it could fit folders. Interesting that it's not on a rack.....Thanks!

Excuse my ignorance but do the Ortlieb bags fit on Dahon Vitesse?

Lewis - I remember reading some time ago on the Brompton Talk Yahoo Group that somebody had managed to attach a KlikFix adapter to a Brompton - it might be worth asking there again.

rbrian - think you might be referring to this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/plooifiets/3439477760/

I was hoping that the Dahon & Brompton systems were somehow interchangeable, or at least use the same mounting centres, having measured them both, I don't think that's the case... it was nice to dream.

The above link has some blurry pics of the Brompton luggage bracket modified to fit on a Dahon with the KlickFix mounting plate. You need to be logged in to the Dahon forum to see the photos but there is a username and password at www.bugmenot.com (http://www.bugmenot.com) that works. I have tried the same but haven't cut away enough of the bracket to get a tight fit against the frame, and since my bracket was welded on crooked I probably won't continue unless I can get the frame replaced (contact me if you want to buy the whole thing, bracket, frame, shopping bag, and rain cover). With my handlebars at the lowest position on the telescoping handlepost, I barely have clearance between the brake levers and the top of the shopping bag.

Basil (www.basil.nl (http://www.basil.nl)) also makes a Brompton-like mounting system that is designed to fit the Dahon plate. It is made of metal and has a higher weight limit and more basket and bag options than the Klickfix. One of the options is a frame that can have a pannier clipped on, similar to the Xootr Crossrack.

There is a KlickFix adaptor for the Brompton. You can use it on the Brompton front block.
