Northern California - A leisurely roll around Granite Bay

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I was out sick today, but someone :innocent: managed to take my Mt. Bike out for an easy 12 miles around the trails in Granite Bay. I love this area...

Here's a few pics...
Very nice - that was a very sensible course of action that you took to avoid infecting your fellow employees.
I'm sure you're feeling much better now. :innocent:

As someone not too far from Granite Bay looking to try out some light offroading, I'm curious as to the specifics of this place. Where can I find it?

Super easy to find.
The most popular places to start are from Cavitt Jr. High or from Twin Rocks Rd. From Cavitt, you will ride through a gate behind their baseball field, up small hill to a jogging trail and to the left, in to the park. From there, just follow the single track. If you start from Twin Rocks, there's a hard left turn with a dirt lot, which will likely have a bunch of cars parked. Ride to the right and in to the park, then follow the singletrack up.
I can ride out there with you sometime if you'd like. Just let me know.

I admit it...I'm an over-washer!! You wouldn't know it by looking at my Jeep though. The bikes and motorcycle are always sparkling in the sunlight while the Jeep disappears beneath a blanket of dust.

I always start from within the park, at Granite Beach...but I have a year pass and don't pay each day. If you're looking for a slow, fat, old'guy riding partner, I'm your guy! If you're not, I'd find it's best to lie and just have a really difficult schedule. :p

Yup, an MTB ride up that way real soon. Gotta plan a day.
Got any longish trail recommendations?
i brought my friend to the granite beach trail, and he hardly ever rides a bike, i had him borrow my cannondale that i was borrowing, and now he really wants to buy a new mountain bike and get into the sport, so thats like totally kool. he had no idea what mountain biking was like till i brought him to granite beach
and also if you guys want to do long mtb ride close to this area, i suggest doing stagecoach then doing the forest hill connector trail, then doing the forest hill loop then back to stagecoach, thatll be an awesome ride, ill even join you guys

Any suggestions for something not too technical? I'm more of a roadie and am still getting the hang of Mt. Biking.

At Granite Bay or anywhere? Granite Bay isn't too technical. There's one rock that you have to ride over but it's not too hard. There's two areas with big rocks that are fun, but you can just go around them (the trail goes around the rocks, but there's lines down the rocks too if you want). Up in Auburn there's some stuff that's not too technical - probably the easiest ride skill-wise is the Foresthill Divide Loop but it takes some pretty decent fitness.
I put together a trail guide on my site that has most of the local mountain biking rides. I'm adding Granite Bay and a couple others this weekend. Local Trails (http://cycling.mattandjosey.com/trails.html)

A couple friends of mine - most of which aren't bikers at all - have done some stuff in Folsom by the lake. Don't know too much more though :(
