Classic & Vintage - best matching front derailleur Gran Sport Campagnolo

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I've just picked up a pretty little road bike made of Vitus 979 Duralinox and which has all Campagnolo bits ... EXCEPT for the front derailleur which is a plastic Simplex job.
I am on the hunt for a better matching front derailleur. The rear is Nuovo Gran Sport. Can anyone confirm that this would normally have come as a matching front-rear pair and that I should be looking for a front NGS? if not, what would you suggest as a good match?
Many thanks

eBay often has vintage 70's & 80's Campagnolo Record FD's with 28.6mm bands. I just picked up one for $10.50. Another sold for $3.00! New Old Stock - NOS. One of those would look stellar. At the same time you can be on the look-out for a NGS-model. But the Record one's are just fine.

I doubt it came originally with Nuovo Gran Sport parts, as they were very cheap. The brakes and shifters on your bike are Athena, so it probably came with matching Athena front and rear derailleur.

Yeah, they made a NGS front derailleur. Here is a circa 1978 NGS on my Raleigh, it's on my list of parts to replace. Front derailleurs seem to be one of the more affordable campy parts to buy, so I would pass the NGS stuff up for that fact.
