Foo - WOOT!! Legalized mtb is now allowed in my county's parks!!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Have been writing about this here --- but have been involved in attending public and other full legisltative meetings, writing, speaking about this for the last 18 months and last night was the final final VOTE and I was one of the 70 plus speakers (they cut us down from 2-3 minutes to ONE minute due to the volume of speakers) - but I must say most of them FINALLY were bicyclists. Through out this whole ordeal the hiking clubs, etc have had the most speakers at each public meeting. I went there at 6 pm, finally spoke at 8:20. Ran back to my office and changed and rode the bike down to the Federal Bldg and locked it up with about 40 other bikes and went back in. They were still adding and voting on amendments when I really looked at the clock - 10:45 pm ugh. I'm tired and hungry - and voting on some of these amendments that were pro-hiking were close. And then I realized that the kittens had been alone (mother's back outside) since 7 am - so I left and found out the good news this morning.

It was covered by 4 TV stations - never spoke before in such a formal environment - or with so many tv cameras present. However, I see little was used by the media. Some. Eh.

BUT I HAVE MY ONE SECOND CLAIM TO FAME!!

I'm at approx. 1:45 :D

The seventh green at the New Course at Genessee Valley Park would be a blast to ride up to. Durand Eastman's course would be a great ride too, if you can avoid all the grumpy old retirees chasing you in their little carts.

<blush>

So I go in there with my suit on - have an orange boob because I spilled squash on my white top, have something else on the skirt - I noticed that as I'm sitting there. Run in stocking. Sheesh all this self inspection as I'm sitting there for a couple hours waiting to present.

And then ... CRUNCH. There go the reading glasses. Not even tape-fixable. Even had the wild idea of holding them with one hand - kinda like opera glasses.

:D oh well, I really just wrote something down 45 minutes before - because I knew what I wanted to say and where I was focusing (from all the people asking me where the trails were during my time as Publicity Director for the roadbike club) and so I winged and it came out fine.

:D

Lol - /\ so true....and Awesome signature material there/\....

Tude, the indefatiguable

sometimes those 'having a bad day' days turn into your best days when the chips are down.

I think I batted .003 my entire little league career but my 15 secs of fame were a 0-and-2 2-run homer I clobbered, only seconds after my teammate found me scampering through the woods looking for a private place to pooh:o

btw, I forgot all about poohing once that ball hit the sweet spot of the bat and disappeared over the left field fence.:D

can't wait to see the "You Tude" tonight

I thought bikes were already allowed in Tryon Park, I see them on the overpass at 590 all the time.

Illegal.

The original "trails" were dirtbike trails as they illegally rode that area when the quarry was functioning, and after it closed (found this out from some of the "old timer" trail builders as I sat waiting to speak).

As of now, the club issued an e-mail that just because this plan passed, it doesn't mean it's a free for all on ANY park in monroe county. Actually there are quite a few stipulations that were attached to the "opening" of trails to be multi-use - such as the County - BEFORE it is legal to ride on - must inspect the trails, perhaps alter them so they are designated as a SAFE trail, another is that a new 4-5 mile trail is going to be built - BUT via the County's design, etc, etc - and when it is all planned out - that is when the call for volunteers, aka grunts who haven't had too much say in how the trail will be built, will be called for. Having the plan pass is a WIN, however there are some issues ... We are hoping and anticipating that the County will involve the original trail (IMBA) people who built the other highly successful recreational park in Victor.

Tryon is still accessible, however DO NOT mess with Bay Park West - which was a very sore point for the hiking district - and Officials from Brighton - who were the ones who introduced 5 amendments that had to do with the Bay Park West (Empire Blvd wetland area) - 4 of which failed and 1 passed which is putting a stoplight in at the bottom of the hill before the climb into Penfield (not a too bad of idea actually as people are most always speeding through there) so hikers, etc can have a safe toddle across the road that is quite busy. That "park" does not currently have a good riding trail anyway. So we were told - don't mess with it. We (bicyclists) are in the spotlight right now and I'm sure the tattle-tale people will be on the look out for ANYTHING.

Nice!

Yeah we got hit with lots of people remarking on finding beer bottles, etc on the trails. And of course assumed it was always a mountain biker who deposited them. My most recent experience was cleaning up the trails and park at Ellison. It was a county wide request, yet only the GROC mtb bikers answered. Not one park neighbor or hiker or anyone. Just us.

I took the backside of the park and Coyote Den trail to clean with 4 others. Can't tell you how many bags of dog poop I picked up. wth! But getting farther back on the trail - especially the overlook of the old quarry - we started finding numerous beer bottles and candy wrappers, we filled two garbage bags and had to send a person back down the trail to leave the bags at the start of the trail ---- and then we get up to the top --- and spread out - and don't we come across a few guys who had pitched a tent - and had a lot of garbage around them .... and not one bicycle around. Awwwwww man - that just blew the hiking people's garbage theory out of the water. Anyone can be a slob and leave garbage, it's not just the mtb people.
