I've got enough races under my belt to upgrade to CAT 4, but I'm already signed up for a few races (up to a month out) as a 5. All of these races are full for the 4s.

Can I upgrade and still race as a 5 in those races?

I'm a little in the dark in regards to the whole upgrade process, as you can tell.

Same situation.

Upgraded to 4 this morning; pre-registered for upcoming races as 5.

Advice / guidance appreciated.

EDIT: Just checked, and both my races are 4/5 fields. Any reason to contact the promoter notifying them of change, or does it not matter since it's a combined field anyway?

Contact the promoter of the race to try and get into the 4's.

Contact the promoter. Ask to get into the 4's field or your money back if you get upgraded. If no go then stay a 5. Upgrade later.

Stay a five until you race out your calender. Upgrade takes less than a week. Sign up for future 4 races now if they are always coming up full.

If you really don't care about the points right now, then wait.

I'd contact the promoter (be annoying), see what happens and then upgrade or not.

Most people I know had no trouble changing their registration to the new category, even in filled fields. I only ever upgraded during the off season.
