what?

EDIT: ah....sarcasm...missed that one!!!

That was a pretty darn brief article with not much information, so kinda hard to tell what is going on there. Everything the same, but the colors/design is changing? I'm not sure I understand why...but oh well....it's not my team, they can do what they want.

Armstrong is trying to line up a major American sponsor. That's a big commitment, he's looking for a ten year deal where he'll race for the team initially and then help run it with Bruneeyl. We're talking a $100 million + commitment. If anybody has the corporate contacts to pull that off it would be Lance.

Pharmaceutical giant? Nike? Hopefully we'll find out soon enough.

How great for American road cycling would it be to have a third major American-based and sponsored cycling team in the UCI? Add Cervelo Test Team to the mix and it's like a significant percentage of the UCI Big Boys would be from North America.

Well, today's stage had to be the biggest slap in the face of LA. Ego got him in and ego will do him in. His face said nothing but pain and shame today going up that mountain flanked by second tier guys just "making company" not to embarrass him even more. Come the second week of the Giro and he will be fetching bottles for the team!!

Astana kit is ugly to begin with, and that is from someone that will admit to having one of their jerseys from last year. That kit from the Tour the Gila was as nice as toilet contents! I am sure the one coming down the line will be just as bad if not worse.

I would not even mention Cervelo in the same sentence as Astana. Their kits are actually one of the nicest in the entire peloton!!

Lance wouldn't have lost 3 minutes today if he'd been able to wear some Mellow Johnny's gear.

Or maybe if his bike wasn't weighed down by all the fugly decals. He was so much faster when he had that basic Project One flame paint scheme.

I'm not a huge LA fan, but I'm pretty sure he is just using the giro to ride into shape for the tour. After his collar bone break, I don't think anyone seriously expected him to perform well in the giro...I'm pretty impressed at his performance so far after being out of competition for so long. Great race so far!

I'm surprised at all the LA/Astana hate around these forums all the time. If it wasn't for LA, cycling wouldn't be anywhere near as popular as it is in America, which isn't very much to begin with. I will continue to root for Astana/Slipstream/etc. As long as it's an american team, they have my support. How do people expect cycling to become more mainstream like it is in Italy and France if we constantly rip on our local boys? Freakin recockulous I say! But I probably shouldn't talk seeing as how I have a Gary Fisher instead of a Cervelo (guess that makes me a Fred with no opinion).

I root for Slipstream and Garmin-Chipotle. Astana is a nice team too, but I just dont feel like backing them up.
Now back to me saving for an AR Team Issue and FULL team kit. The kit alone must be worth another 0.25HP

Technically Astana is NOT an American team (you are absolutely correct). Apparently I should correct myself by saying I support american RIDERS not TEAMS. Lance and Levi are great riders. And yes I do support other riders from other countries. Boonen, Contador, Valverde, are a few I like and cheer for.

You don't know what you're talking about. In all of Lance's years he's been quite humble. Even during his 7 time TdF streak he would talk about the other riders on the team.

This morning before stage 5 lance said he hoped he could stay within 2 minutes of the stage finish. It ended up being almost 3 minutes. Still not too bad. He finished with the lead chase pack but couldn't hang with the once doper Ivan Basso when the pack fractured 8km from the finish.

He took over three years off. He comes back and gets fit quickly and is still one of the top riders in the world at age 37 (being one of the oldest). I'm willing to bet you couldn't even make up the hills today without a car or walking.

The latter half of the Giro is where Lance will shine. Nobody expected him to be a miracle worker on these tough hills. He won't win; but he'll do well. I imagine he'll also perform very well at the TdF.

It's funny...on another board populated by people with an understanding of racing, the stage five thread had over 3,700 views and over 170 posts. There were, the last time I looked, 44 posts on the threads, here. for the last two stages.

This is a great place for people to post pictures of themselves trying to figure out bike fit, or arguing ad nauseum about whether Cervleos suck or not, or trying to figure out the mystical complexities of clipless pedals. But it's not the place to talk pro racing.

Lance always seems to do well in the second half of a tour. Other guys seem to get worn down and fatigue but not lance, he gets stronger, he is amazing.

You can see this happening in his drug test results he published - during heavy training loads his haematocrit count actually *increased*. This is not normal and shows he is indeed a miracle.

You technically have a point, but only technically.

Where is the Russian team registered? Luxembourg? Should we think of it as a Russian team, or as a Luxo team? A team represents the area that it pretends to represent. It doesn't matter what's on some legal document that no one will ever read...
