I was riding on a MUP the other day and approached this young couple walking along it obviously enjoying each others company and ignoring their surroundings. I rang my bell. I'm not sure anyone hears it but I ring it anyway. As I got close, I startled them and he looks at me and says "What the hell is that!?"
I replied "It's a trike!" He just gave me a weird look and she giggled. I had people pause before calling it a tricycle. Even some members of my family refuse to call it a "trike", implying that's a kid's toy.

I'm not afraid to call it what it is. Sure I could call it a recumbent tricycle, cause that's what it is, but what's so painful about calling what we ride a "trike"?

Ya gotta call it what it is...a spade a spade...with three wheels it is a trike, tricycle, tri-wheeled vehicle. even a motorcycle with three wheels is a trike. ?is this couple, or guy, gonna wonder or mess with a motorcycle rider who calls his three wheeler a trike?

$10,000 road bikes are still "bikes," just like a $69 Wally World special is a bike.

If someone has a problem calling it a trike, then it is their problem.

Would it have helped solve their giggle problem if you told them it was a tadpole?

I thought the Wally World special was a "BSO," for "Bicycle Shaped Object." Now darn, I can't remember where I *just* heard that, to give proper credit...

LBS maybe?

I've been calling them that for quite a while. And I can't claim credit for the term, either.

Three wheels makes it a trike - I agree you could call it a 'tadpole' or 'delta' trike to make it sound more specialized.

Not a thing, I just add counters_____ since mine are all a counter-strike to a living room sofa.
