yes, i'm a newb (to the forum), and yes, this question may have been answered in an earlier thread (but couldn't find it). but nonetheless, i was wondering what is the most long lasting tire you ladies and gentlemen recommend for skidding. 2 weeks ago bought a generic tire and already skid through it. ratio is 46/15 = 15 skid patches.... help??

thanks so much, aus.

Vittoria Randonneur.

The search functions pretty good on here, and there have been multiple threads about this. But I especially like the Soma Everwears, 5mm of tire to skid through is pretty good. My Gatorskins lasted a while too.

The feel I get from these threads is that eventually people get tired of wearing through tires and just run brakes. Some folks get tired after $10 of tires; other folks take it past $100. Sooner or later, though, everyone gets tired.

All the above... Everwears, gatorskins or Randos. Can't go wrong there.

Stay away from continental ultra-sports, and don't go with the gatorskins either that's a $40 tire that's not any thicker in tread than the cheaper $15 contis I mentioned. Gatorskins are good cause of their flat protection, why people recommend skidding on a tire that expensive beats me! SOMA Everwear if you're really stuck on skidding, biketiresdirect.com has them for $31 each.

Everyone always acts like getting a brake is the death knell for skidding forever. I run a front brake and use it constantly, but I still skid around smooth asphalt surfaces for fun. I'd rather have a skid tire for fun and stop with a front brake.

This guy is obviously having trouble with the search function. I have been too for the past several months. Anyone know how to fix this? I've tried different browsers but that didn't work.

Anyway, best tire for skidding is Vittoria Randonneur found at the bike co-op for free, second is a Vittoria Randonneur purchased at your local shop, and third is what ever else you can find for free at the bike co-op. You should also gear up to a 47 tooth chainring (or down to 43T) to give you 30 skid spots if you skid ambidextrously (which any brakeless rider really should be able to do for their own safety's sake).

Please, make it stop.

I'm drunk, and yet I still can't take another thread about tires for skidz.

Butter your tires.

I think this is the best answer you can get. I start to avoid skidding when I am using expensive tires. So I hunt for cheap tires. NOS, [Slightly] Used, Left-Forgotten, etc.

You should install the patented NoTyres .
You need to have NoTyres installed at a shop, if you want it done right.

Ride the future. Do skiddz.
Ride NoTyres .

I run a Soma Everwear on my rear wheel and love it. I've heard Gatorskins are good also. I only skid for fun though ... almost never as a stopping mechanism.

Did Soma ever address the sidewall blowout/rip problem? I know that was a big issue with the everwears
