Recreational & Family - I want a "comfort" bike: of these 2, which?

I am looking at two comfort bikes: Trek Navigator 100 (04) and Diamondback Wildwood Deluxe (04). I like them both, but the features on the Diamondback are much more "comfortable", i.e., the saddle, the handlebar grips and shifters. Both have adjustable stems, suspension seatposts, AL frames, 26" tires, and suspension forks. In all aspects they are similar, more than different. Price difference is $25, but that's not the issue. I think I am being swayed by the Trek name, yet the Diamondback actually feels more comfortable to ride. I like the looks of both bikes. Fitting is similar on both.

Guess I'm wondering about overall quality-I've had Treks before and think they are very nice bikes. Have not owned a Diamondback, but understand it's also part of Raleigh, which I believe is a highly regarded company.

Given the brand names, which one would you go for? Or are there other considerations you might point out? Thanks for your feedback...

If you haven't made your purchase yet, the latest issue of Consumer Reports has a good section on selecting the right bike. It also has an interesting comparison between department store bike buying versus buying from a bike shop. The article also makes their recommendations for good value and performance in four different bike categories.

Diamondbacks any good?

Diamondbacks are a good brand. I have a 2001 Sorrento that I've beat to death, amost. If the price isn't the issue, then make your selection based on the feel of the bike and the respective shop's service level.

Actually, turns out the price for the Diamondback Wildwood Deluxe and the Trek Navigator 100 were exactly the same, $289. The DB had the next step up in components, plus the seat and handlebar grips/shifter system were much more comfortable. I liked the "retro" curved top tube look of the DB and the blue paint job. Went with it~really sweet "comfort" ride. :)

I like the Trek Navigator.
