:o How Colorado Springs got a "Sliver award", I can't fantom:rolleyes: I'd say we rate "Bronze" at best, I'm still leery of riding on any really busy street, I mean I've seen parked cars nicked:twitchy: Yea it's great on the mostly dead ending paths or rail-trails but there aren't ANY bike lanes into the "City center", I get yelled at, laughed at, snickered at just about any time I'm on the "Road" here. A lot of the "non-connecting" bike Lanes, need a serious repaint, the City Counsel must have "wined and dined" the rating forks from the national organization or there was a serious pay off;)

denver should be a silver but got dinged a few yrs about when RTD (mass transit light rail)
required a license to take bikes on light rail this is no longer the fact but
silver hasnt been restored

Denver doesn't allow bikes on sidewalks that are not part of a marked bike route but repeatedly refuse to provide a listing of the routes.
They require people to buy a paper map to have a "rough sketch" of the routes - definitely sub adequate.

I thought Gunnison was very bike friendly last year. Bike lanes were good, there were bike paths and lanes on roads into town, neighborhood back streets without them were very wide, and cars went around without any fussin or cussin. Lots of people on bikes there, and bike racks were abundant in front of stores and cafes in the downtown area. I'd give it a silver.

I kinda see your point, still, putting in a bunch of trails and lanes that "don't connect" to make a true route in all directions so as to make commuting easily possible SHOULD be a serious point and too that Colorado Springs doesn't seem to have a "CLUE", jmho, ymmv. I'm riding here and I don't see this "Bicycle Friendly" attitude anywhere, infact, all I hear is "cursing" about the new 3-ft. law and that bicycles don't belong on the road from auto drivers here:( I'd still say the city rates a "bronze" award at best, the National Organization folks just got a good snow job done to them, after all, they say, "If you can't dazzel them with Brillantance, baffle them with BS" and our City fathers did a great job of that!:rolleyes:

Well that's just it with "Bike Friendly", isn't it.

Throw down several miles of paint stripe along the existing shoulder of a busy arterial that abruptly ends at a narrow, high speed limit auto bridge and your city gets credit for miles of "bike facilities".

Move over two blocks and improve the intersections of a quiet, parallel side street that leads to a new cycling bridge across the river and your city gets credit for a hundred feet of "bike facilities".
