Introductions - Hiya from The Mitten!

I'm Connor from the bottom half of Michigan :) Now that the ICY FIST OF WINTER has *finally* broken, I've traded in the bus ticket to get out the bike for the (short) commute to work. So I thought I'd just drop in and say hi, 'cause I'm looking for a new setup and I really want to learn how to maintain a bike, rather than just use one all the time!

As soon as I saw "HIya from the Mitten," I knew it was a Michiganian. Welcome to the Forums. I'm a native of Michigan and learned to appreciate the cycling lifestyle there, so I always like to say Hi to Michigan cyclists. I notice that most Michiganian Introductions are from the state as the location, and often about the weather there. So more specifically where are you from and what kind of riding do you do? (I'm from the East Side of Detroit, and was a tourist for a long time, now a year round commuter and occasional centurian here in Boston).

When we went to Parents' Orientation at the University of Michigan a couple of years ago, a panel discussion was held about the adjustment students make to college life. One funny student from Maryland thought it was hilarious the way Michigan residents pointed to their location in the state on the palm of their hand. He called it the "Mitten Thing." :D

Oh man, U of M? I can't get caught chatting with one of *them* around here - I live, work, eat, sleep, breathe MSU :D I've been around the campus for as long as I've been alive...which is great for cycling! The campus is huge and incredibly beautiful this time of year - especially the gardens! - and there's no place to park for a simple student like me! So I mostly do commuter riding - I'm actually looking into a new bike just for that right now - but I have been known to take a jaunt down to the Capitol bldg. every once and a while :)

And the 'mitten thing' is the most. useful. thing. EVER! Although, when I'm pointing out the U.P. (left hand), I have to use my right hand for the L.P. - leaving me without a hand to point!
