i notice most mid-high end bikes uses 39/14 gearing .....and some low ends 44/16
wut im tryin to ask is can i do 36/14 or something? would i need to do any modifications?

you can run whatever gearing you would like as long as the chain clears the frame....the difference is that with a shorter front sprocket you run less of a chance of mauling it doing stalls or grinds..good luck

you shouldnt need to any thing as long as u found the right sprockets u should be able to just bolt em on and beware u will notice a big difference with the new gear ratio
not necessarily, if you go with a similar gear ratio there should be almost no difference in how the bike reponds to inputs....
a 25:9 comes out as a 55.6 in gear inches....
a 36:13 comes out to a 55.4 in gear inches...
a 44:16 comes out to a 55 in gear inches
and a 45:16 comes out to a 56.3 just for reference....
see, little to no difference to be honest....those sexy smaller gears are actually a harder drive, though small enough to be insignificant....but the gains in size and weight and placement are the real benefits...
