Here's the scenario, I want to build up a geared monster cross/all arounder.....leaning towards a triple chainring.

I own a stock cross check complete and I really,really like it. I like it so much that I am strongly considering buying a Cross Check framset and using that for the build. I would be perfectly happy owning two versions of the same bike.

However, I would like to get some feedback about other cyclocross or rigid 29er framset options. FWIW I am 6'3ish and hover around about 230.

Since you are obviously asking about something leaning toward Cyclocross... you may want to ask in the Cyclocross forum. With the 29er possibilities, check out the MTB forum.

You can get more specific expertise if you ask in the specific forums, since many readers of those forums never wander into the General Cycling Discussion forum. You should do a quick search in those forums before posting as well, as it may get you close to the right answer.

Once you ask, you don't need to read the entire forum, just subscribe to your thread and get an email when it is updated.

I moved from my Cross Check a Rawland (http://www.rawlandcycles.com/) and love it. Very versatile all-arounder.

EDIT - Oops - I see you are looking for a 29er. The Rawland is built around 650b wheels, but it can run anything from 26 inch to 29er's, but I doubt you would have much clearance at all with the 29er's. Still, it's a cool bike and very capable off road as well as for commuting, so worth considering.

i really like my salsa frameset, which i built up. but if your cross check is what you like, i'm with cmshooter---just buy another one and build it to your spec. of course, for me, i could only go with disc brakes now, knowing what i know; so i'd find a cx frame with disc tabs.
