There was this link on the bike clubs web site - a great story of what is possible. I am sure a few of our more accomplished riders will relate. http://www.northeastcycling.com/NE_Climbs_main.html

Also - if you are into the big hill climb races, here is a description of the big ones in the NE
http://www.northeastcycling.com/Hillclimb_Races.html

My first attempt at a race will be Whiteface (listed in this site) is late June. Never raced before - I just want to survive... I may take a crack at Graylock (also listed) as it is close - just to get ready, it will reopen with fresh pavement on the 22nd after being closed for the last year.
I can't tell you why I want to do this, I guess it is an S&M thing.

You have begun the slippery slope to racing. Welcome to the club! Race reports required.

You have certainly selected a challenging first race. We will look forward to your report.

Thanks all - as Hermes says - this one is challenging but my morning riding partner has done this race several times - last year his 14 YO daughter did it with him - she had to take a break in the middle but she did it! I figure I can to - again, it's more about the bragging rights and having a time to beat next year (or even in the fall when they do it again).

Billy - if you are serious than let me know. This is the Lake Placid area - Whiteface is where they held the olympic mens & womans downhill. This part of the Adirondack park is spectacular - crystal clear mountain lakes, whitewater canoeing and hiking as well as great cycling country.
