Planning a trip to the root river trail in June. We will be staying a couple days in Lanesboro. We'll leave our vehicle in Houston and ride back to a B+B where I have reservations. Any tips on the ride or cool things to do in the area? Really looking forward to the trip, help me make it great! Thanx

Well, the main activity is...
riding your bike on the trail. It's paved all the way and has two forks. From Lanesboro to one end is 30 miles (and fairly isolated) and going west it's either 20 or about 15. You can also rent a tube or canoes and go on the root river.
I believe there is a summer theater there also. Incidentally, I will be there in June 16-18. There is also a bakery on the main drag up from the theater that serves excellent cinnamon buns. I don't remember the name of it, but seriously, the town is only about 4 blocks long. There is also a farmer's market on Fridays in Fountain, I believe, right off the trail.

Oh! Great place in Rushford, MN for ice cream, etc.

There's a small place to eat in Whalen, just east of Lanesboro that has good pie. In Lanesboro there's a winery, called Scenic River Winery, or something like that, which has pretty good wine.

You may want to get the Minnesota/Wisconsin Bicycle Vacation Guide by Doug Shidell
You'll find it at most Minnesota bookstores or on-line from Amazon or B&N
Doug also offers an e-book download of just the Root River section for $5.00 directly from his own website, BikEveryWhere

Hope that helps
