Touring - Portland, OR tourers- what shop do you use?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hello fellow Portland tourers! I was wondering what shop or co-op you prefer to use when getting your bike ready for a tour. I've had fine enough luck with the Bike Gallery, but they can have a horrible turn-around time. Plus, I may be able to find something a little closer to home.

Agreed. I'd like to give you a recommendation, but other than buying parts, I've never been to a shop for repairs or tuneup. The added bonus is that I've been able to take care of any mechanical problems on the road.

That said, I like the atmosphere at City Bikes and at Sellwood Cycles. I don't know how that translates into knowledgable repair service, though...

Whatever you do, don't have it tuned up a day before you start. Bike shops seem to have almost as much of a knack for making it worse as well as making it better, and you want to find any new problems well in advance.
