Alt Bike Culture - Painting bicycle helmets... theme ideas please

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Im going to paint my bike helmet. I ordered red, and got a blue from nashbar. So now its a good excuse to paint it. Im looking for ideas for the helmet. I wanted to make something entirely unique. Im also going to paint my motorcycle helmets, which is a bit easier since they have much more real estate to paint.
I was thinking my helmet could be a ducati theme for bicycles? Can't afford the bikes, but it would look good on my bike helmet.

Gasoline will melt styrofoam very impressively, wicked-witch-of-the-west style. Not sure what paint will do to a bike helmet, but there's the potential for a meltdown.

Paint it flesh tone then spritz it with water to get the droplet effect then shoot clear. It'll look like your sweating all the time.

Exactely. No helmet should be painted, or even have a sticker put on it unless the sticker glue is specially made for helmets. All helmets should also be kept out of the sun when not in use.

Wouldn't any foam safe (water based) brushed on or airbrushed paint be harmless to a helmet?
paint it so it looks like an afro...might need some hair to go with that ;)

your helmet should be fine so long as you use waterbased acrylics, and then clear coat with another acrylic for added toughness.
I had an idea about a decade ago, to make helmets with clear plastic covers, that you could paint yourself...from the inside, so it'd havee that clear coated look. That was before the "in-molded" helmets, which I admit are much nicer that the older style where the tape kept coming off and then you'd lose your lid.
Ideas,....hmmm give it a bug theme, and add pipe cleaner legs, and wire/mesh wings.
